    Many, some or a few?

Many/some/a few railway enthusiasts are well known for their resistance to change.

But things change. Journalists get new jobs. Other railway magazines have had significant changes to their editorial strategy and content. If you don't like it, try something different.

I understand there's a desire higher up to make it more snazzy and tabloidy (even more than before!), more like some of the rubbish celebrity magazines. Hence the mass exodus of staff.

Having spent a few days reading Issue 2 compared with a few hours reading SR I feel a new subscription coming on and at a cost of £3 per copy it is about the same as SR.

I was given the first two copies of Trackside to look at after our trip to the Mid-Suffolk on Sunday. Having started to read the first edition in the garden this am and actually considering that I had learnt/been informed more in the first 30 pages of Issue 1 than the whole of the last 2 copies of Steam Railway, I think another 12 months of subscription to SR is the most they are likely to get, unless there is a dramatic change over the coming editions!

I have taken steam railway from day 1, and have to say the content and quality has obviously varied over 40 odd years, but i have stuck with it. Recently though, the content seems to have been very poor, and i am seriously thinking of stopping my subscription, especially after reading comments about Trackside. What really did it for me was a recent edition, which contained 14 pages about a COACH (Steam Railway ?) Also, if the paper gets much thinner,i may have to find an alternate use for it! ps...i haven't seen Trackside yet, as W H Smiths in Kettering has closed down. Any ideas where i can purchase a copy? Thanks AJK

Shock! Horror! Friend. Even a Steam Railway has more to it than nice shiny steam engines..... Or are you quite happy to ride around in clapped out rotten carriages, that are only fit for the scrap heap?

No i don't, but neither do i want to spend nearly a fiver on a magazine called Steam Railway and expect 14 of it's pages to be devoted to one coach!
Btw, i think they did a splendid job on it, but surely there is only so much you can write about 1 vehicle, plus about 25 photographs. Perhaps the coach lovers can have their own mag....joke!

Though 14 pages on one engine would be fine.......................................

Thanks ! I’ll have some of that. Anything to avoid having to set foot in Nuneaton town centre.

Think I expected more; it doesn’t seem that different from other publications. The layout seems a bit scrappy in places.

I've stopped buying Steam Railway due to the quality of recent content. The best mag by a mile is the good old Railway Magazine.

Yeah I'm not particularly keen on it much too. Still intending to get the current issue but I do prefer Steam Railway mag
