It is excellent fun, and more hands always welcome. Job satisfaction guaranteed. No special skills required. You just have to hate brambles....

Not sure what to do this weekend. No trains to see. Looking forward to mixed traction weekend.

As others have said, it was an excellent gala. The S&D really was evoked by some of the loco combinations. 4F and Bulleid, 7F and Bulleid and of course 7F+7F. First time I think, that they have been together in matching BR liveries.
One odd thing I observed, was how very few people seemed to notice the S&D nameboards. All photos I have seen are of just the engines. So, here is one of Bournemouth West plus a loco.

    Hello,
I obviously missed my free Rose Tinted eye protection on the day I visited the WSR S&D Gala.

I got one with templecombe sign and 34070 in shot. Just wish I'd had thought about doing the same with 34098 but sadly wasn't running on the Sunday.

Don't just think - do it! At the end of the event, even if you decide it's not for you, you will have had a good free day out on the railway! But I warn you, it can be addictive:)

Get yourself up to the Severn Valley - I am! After all that delightful S&D stuff last weekend I need my fix of GWR engines.

Don't worry just come back to the WSR when the 2 Halls and Manor are running as normal to get your GWR fix. Of course we will now retain the S&D flavor with a 7F or two and the 4F. Also I have it on good authority that work is going to be stepped up on 9351 now that 53808 is finished so we will hopefully be adding a Mogul to the fleet as time allows. Then of course you can always 'blag' a quick visit into the workshop and see a King being rebuilt next to the Mogul. Its nearly like Swindon only a bit smaller!!!!

If anyone wants an antidote to the S&D withdrawal symptoms, can I suggest a good read, 'Footplate over the Mendips ' by Peter Smith. Probably out of print now, but you will probably get it online.
