That's very informative - thanks for posting. It all makes a lot more sense now!

    My programme arrived this morning.

I won't do a spoiler, but the timetables show plenty of opportunities to ride behind/ see locos on their own.

Seems reasonable as they wouldn't be able to post them out in time now. Mine arrived today looking as though it had fallen into a bucket of water. Bit wet down this way today.

That's a cracking good picture - very Southern! Regarding the booklets I have never worked out why they have to mail them out separately from the tickets. The Severn Valley manage to put a WTT and a ticket in the same envelope! Last time I booked online with the West Somerset the ticket arrived but the programme never did!

So does 41312 remain facing the same direction for the entire gala? If so, which direction? Thanks in advance!

I think that you can't actually run a loco round a train at Norton Fitzwarren - it has to go round the triangle (unless they have laid some new track that I'm not aware of). If that is the case, a train will always return from NF facing the opposite direction to the one it started with.

No, it is possible to run round without reversing. The 'East Chord' was built at the same time as the rest of the triangle.

Oh of course - there's that inner chord in the triangle. Thanks for the correction!

The gala was always the first Saturday of October, it has never been September in the last 10 years certainly.

Unfortunately the change in date means I cannot attend which I am pretty gutted about, would love to have seen 73082.

You are going to a railway you don't like cause there are locos in BR black?

Reported on Swanage thread 80104 no longer visiting due to failure of 30120.

Those glossy brochures are obsolete days before the event starts . Oh for a simple A4 timetable and roster on the website...

I contacted the railway this morning (Monday) and was pleased to learn that I could still have a WTT forwarded to me in the post.

I agreed to pay for first class postage and the price was £5.

Update: Sad to hear that 80104 is no longer available but with the remainder of locos attending, the gala should be very good.

News from Don Bishop: ''Along with WSR General Manager Paul Conibeare I am actively looking for another loco, but of course time is very tight''. <BJ>

Is there a spare loco to cover if no replacement can't be found. Hope the WTT stays the same as quite looking forward to double heading services
