I understand that there was damage to the grate/firebars during servicing at Carlisle. Also it was a different driver and very much worse weather conditions. So the engine was driven with care.

I have calculated that the edbh over the last couple of miles to Shap summit was 1700-1730 which is a very high figure for a class 7 engine.

Clearly we chose the right day for our trip. And yes a great video clip. I think you were one if the four at the table opposite us?

And I was further along the coach, I guess you were the one with the GPS thingy mounted on the window then, noticed it on my regular trips to the buffet, together with laptop and moving map on the table opposite, amongst the beer bottles. All very technical, but not sure what part the bottles played in the scheme of things.

Oiling something no doubt, but the group were very restrained, saw the picture in 'Spoons where more was obviously supped and then more to go at once back on the train, and I now realise that it was the mods group, tsk tsk not leading by example then.

Well as the 'one honorary' I forsook the ale once I heard din from the front end kick in on Shap, and made a dash for the nearest free drop light. What a great couple of minutes it was - well worth the frostbite to my tee-shirt clad body! Even my iPhone footage sounds good, and I was on the windward side too :)

Yes that was I. No bottles on our table though. Train timing is a serious business which requires a clear head so my bottles were waiting for me at home.

    Fantastic.

Are there now mileposts on the east side as well as west side or are those yellow posts new KM posts?

Well everything else around it was on time so my guess is that there was a forced stop at Tebay and an interesting climb of Shap.

It had 12 on, but i reckon a stop at Tebay sounds about right.

From postings on FB, it sounds as though she had to stop for a blow up.
