Ian Riley said in another thread,

To all intents and purposes, as far as intended reliability is concerned, 'Scotsman' is a Riley loco!

Much proving and running-in running is planned early January, prior to the ELR event weekends, and a 'Light' and 'Loaded' 'mainline' test run is booked prior to the CME...........and with regards to the seriously protracted delays with other 'mainline' locos as listed above by others, their overhaul wasn't from our works!..;)...and incidentally, I have insisted that WCR provide an ETC loco at the rear of the consist to ensure that the January temperatures are combated....and to assist if need be with our newbie steed?.....I never take chances unless I am 100% proven sure!

I think when @EltonRoad says "box on the right" he's referring to the layout of the RTC web page, where there's a side-bar giving the route as out via S&C, return via Shap. However, this contradicts the main text, and I wouldn't like to guess which is correct. RTC haven't won any prizes for their proof-reading ;-)

What pertinence does that quote have to the question of which route the WCME will take?

I was indeed referring to the layout of the web page! As it says it will "now" go north over the S&C, that suggests it's an update to the original routing?

Whilst browsing on the Works I saw that the question has been asked of Ian and he confirms north over S&C, and therefore the prospect of an early morning run up through Bromley Cross to Sough..

Hope the A3 is gauged for that route ....
Sensible to do the outward via secondary routes too.

May get an 'unusually' early path over the S&C if we're lucky ..

If the Farnworth tunnel is gonna be shut on the weekend of the railtour then the only way will be to go via the triangle at Newton-le-Willows otherwise the tour will have to go via Walkden & Daisy Hill.

There is the option to go via Rochdale to Blackburn with steam on the rear then leading towards Clitheroe. A diesel is planned for the consist anyway so makes that a possibility.

Anything that can make getting off the ground better than last year the more helpful. I think chances are stronger that it shall be a good day out for the passengers.

That I was a victim of as I was onboard that particular railtour, had hoped for double 5XP's and then that was reduced to 1 and then on the day of the railtour just before departure I was informed by a contact of mine that Leander had been failed on Carnforth shed with a weeping washout plug that was found bubbling away. Footage from the tour in question, despite the lack of a jubilee it was still a good day.

Nothing wrong with a climb up through Walkden to start the day off with some hard work! But I suspect Eccles and Golborne is more likely, if there is a path.

If it takes the latter route might it perhaps stay on the WCML northbound, reverting to the annual traditional direction?

    No 46100 then?
    And only the S&C section?

Perhaps they mistyped 46233 Duchess of Sutherland when they meant to type 46100 Royal Scot, an easy mistake to make ,10/10 for observation.
