Agreed. Saphos seem to be raising the bar and making it clear what you are buying.

I struggle with the CMEs in so much as some run with assistance and the excuse is ETH. Others run without and Steam Heat works well. I've avoided CMEs simply because I don't know what I am buying. I'm prepared to make a weekend of a steam trip by venturing where DB operate with a high chance of the tour looking just like the ad.

Yes and its clearer than ever to me that there are regular NP contributors in possession of "inside knowledge" which would be of immense benefit to their fellow NP posters trying to make sense of things when considering parting with hard earned. The fact it seems they would rather whinge about the questions than answer them beggars belief but says a great deal about their character.

    Where to begin ......
How would one go about such a thing?
Play it as Mr Perks or Father Jack?

AFAIK if a CME originates from Euston, it will 95% chance be unassisted on the steam leg. I could be wrong, but I can only think of once instance where a diesel was included (31/03/2012) and I believe that was due to a defective coach requiring removal on arrival at Carnforth.

Interesting hypothesis, must be a dual heat rake then?
ETH is more effective but means pushed up the hills generally. Can't win!

Taking an extra jumper this year, although they looked after us last year when the heating was very iffy and moved us into a totally empty First Class Carriage.

    Just had tickets emailed.
Will be 45699, and steam will come off at Hellified on the return due to operational reasons -no problem as far as I am concerned, just as long as the heating is working!
    Load 9 carriages.

I could be wrong but I seem to think the rostered 'heating box' wasnt fit last year and the '37' they put on the outbound leg didnt heat well, if at all.

ANY heating from a Class 37/7 would either be a miracle or perhaps even an 'operating incident' such as 'trailing locomotive on fire'!!!

Don't we get this nonsense each year over the first CME? Clearly the absence of main line steam over Christmas and the New Year triggers withdrawal symptoms from some and that manifests itself on here.

Now that it has been announced that Galatea will be the motive power on a sensible length train it does illustrate that the only authoritative message about these trips will come from the TOC and not the tour operator who has to rely on what they are told. So perhaps we should all accept once and for all that any preliminary information provided in advance for the trip is just that - i.e. preliminary. At least it's steam each way over the hills and with a bit of luck there may be some snow to look at.

Is load nine including the brake and support coach ? If so, that's a very light load considering the first WCME have always sold well.
