Given that the stock appears to remain in P3 at Carlisle during the short layover, the presence of any supporting diesel will actually complicate things quite a lot if it is included in the mix. Anyway, I presume that SG has passed its FTR exam so it is fit to do the trip. The load is appropriate and as WCRC has said consistently, diesels are not included 'just in case'.

That's why I'm on it tomorrow.

Sound logic in your assessment Alan and I sincerely hope the trip fulfils your hopes.
An FTR is fine as far as it goes but is not the same as some form of post repair test running which reasonably tests the work in a similar way to the job in hand will do. A pessimistic and overly cautious engineer I would make so the greater minds than mine know better.
    Best of luck.

No reports of the actual train? RRT says it is now at Carlisle.

Really wet and miserable here east of the Pennines - if it the same same 'west side', I can imagine not much incentive to go and have a look!

Rejoice! Really pleased for all on board. Good to see RTC and WCRC delivering the product.

And although UKsteam says "Now via Shap both ways due to gauging issues" for this one as for last week's, RTT shows that it came round the coast as promised. This bodes well for future dates.

Brilliant job by Steve Chipperfield and Chris Holmes. Under 72 min Carnforth to Carlisle with 35 min at Shap in poor conditions after a slip at Scout Green, I think. By the way that would have been a fast time on any day but it included, yes included, a minute and a half stop at Yealand Summit because of a rogue TPWS stop under greens. Before that we had wound up to 41 before the stop.

    Oh ye of little faith!
