After rooting through four or five pages in the photography section, I couldn't find any existing threads that were asking members/photographers of a local line if they recognised a shot found on the internet, so that the enquirer could visit that location themselves, so I thought I'd create one (please merge if such a thread does exist!).

If successful we could more easily locate new spots (which for others of course will be old favourites) on both the mainline and in preservation.

The excellent work of the Ecclesbourne Valley's vegetation clearing team is creating more and more photographic opportunities on this previously overgrown line. Could anyone more familiar with the line point out where this photograph was taken?

It would be nice to know if this is a publicly accessible location (looks like an overbridge?) an if so from which station it could be accessed from.

    Any ideas?

A quick look at the OS map shows at least seven public bridges over the line. Which one the shot was taken from - if any of them - I will have to leave to those with more knowledge of the line.

You could also find the railway on Google maps then use street view at each overbridge to find the one that matches the photo....

It looks to me like Barnsley Lane bridge, just off the main Wirksworth Road.

I think the picture was taken a little further north of Barnsley Lane at an occupation bridge located at 53° 3'21.95"N and 1°34'25.23"W.

By the way, a superb photographic location has opened-up here: 53° 1'40.26"N, 1°33'48.46"W looking south. The vegetation guys have done a fantastic job and the formation offers some great opportunities, especially for our diesel gala on 17-18 March.

Finally, Wirksworth Station has had a makeover on Google Earth! Until last week, the view was of the station just prior to clearance work in 2000 but the latest image is dated 2010 and shows the station in its restored glory.

Thanks for the additional info, I have visited EVR as a passenger but not as a photographer - as yet.

About time as I always wondered on the relationship between the web cams and google images.

I'm a DMU nut I'm afraid so have booked in at the ELR. You have one of the largest fleets in the country however, so a DMU gala with all sets out, box van tail load etc would doubtlessly trigger a visit! Looking into the future perhaps there'd be scope for this sometime after a passing place is installed on the line?

It gladdens my heart to read that you appreciate DMUs, although your avatar and user name is a bit of a giveaway!

A passing loop is under construction at Shottle, located about a mile south of Idridgehay. The station will open this June and I would expect the loop to be operational next year. That's when we can start the intensive Inter-Village 025 service!

Exciting developments indeed. A visit is overdue, as I have yet to see E59303 or E50170 since they were returned to service. Looking forwards there is also likely to be an internally refurbished E51505 and externally refurbished M55006 to enjoy as well. The problem will be seeing all the great progress in one go, hence the suggestion for a gala :)

Yes, good idea; sometimes we don't appreciate what we have!
