According to the RTC website the first two 'Weymouth Seaside Express' charters on 13th and 20th July have been cancelled. <BJ>

The 20th July was cancelled sometime ago , when the Valleys Explorer was redated.

Yes. Thanks for that. It appears that the first train on the 13th has now been cancelled. <BJ>

I suspect lack of loco with available support crew is the reason for the 13th being cancelled.
Icons of Steam website has been updated and they are providing motive power for 27/7, 10/8 and 24/8.
Locos needed for 3/8 and 17/8.

Interesting, as it's been posted elsewhere that Braunton is in charge of the Torbay Express on the 13th, one is left wondering why Nunney Castle isn't available for the Weymouth run? Lack of available support crew sounds the most likely explanation. Shame as these trips are great value, and usually run full or very nearly full. Flyers have been deposited at Temple Meads in the browsers as well as full size posters on the walls so I'm sure there'll be the usual level of interest.

I have to give RTC credit as they have taken out 4 full page advertisements
in the local newspapers of Bristol for their various railtours. <BJ>

Yes indeed, they are very good at that. Their advertising, literature and publicity always sparkles. Just a shame that the end result doesn't always match the same standards, but then we all know the whys and wherefores behind that.

We should be jolly lucky we have main line steam at all so keep quiet at the back there !

Won't have been lack of support crew as for July we had split rosters one for 5029 and one for 34046 operating every other weekend allows us to use the free weekend for maintenance.

Thanks for the information. Looking forward to seeing 5029 tomorrow. I can't think of a nicer looking locomotive, (of those currently in ticket), to kick off the 2014 Torbay Express season, : )

I can think of a few. :) It will look good on home territory though, especially with a rake of chocolate and cream.

I saw that on Uk steam but equally 70013 was down for a while for today's DCE but that actually ran as 44932 and a diesel. As all of the WSE's to date have been cancelled so far this year, and last year was fairly sporadic too, I'm hoping we actually do get the Castle down this Sunday.

5029 is listed for it on the Icons of Steam website.
70013 was never due to haul the DCE today since it is hauling a CathEx to Bath and Bristol tomorrow.

Yes 70013 has a diesel. Not sure about 5029 on Sunday.

Of course the Torbay Express has run with both 34046 and 5029 with no diesel in sight, and there have been some excellent performances on this train.

We need continual heavy rain before the railtour as we did last weekend.
Not much chance of that according to the weather forecast. :( <BJ>

I've heard, from a normally well-informed friend, that 5029 will haul the WSE on Sunday, but that she will have diesel assistance, probably from the rear.

..and my guess is that the problem will be Evershot Bank. Not a surprise really.
