I was just going to make that exact point. Drivers do very well judging speed on a huge variety of steam locos

No, is that a requirement of travelling on heritage railways now?!

If it wasn't for the late running I wouldn't either bother getting the GPS out.
Yes, we get an additional 10% in our motor vehicles when passing speed cameras and average cameras, this is due to the inaccuracies of your speedometer. The outdated speedometer in a steam loco is probably the same.

Getting over excited about an unexceptional performance for a Manor in first class condition, with good Welsh coal, six coaches, and an excellent crew is ridiculous. I have very much enjoyed the last few days visiting the WSR, for the first time in quite a while, and I am looking forward to more fun today.

I see the goods today is top and tailed with 75069 and 419. just left Minehead 10 minutes late and the 0950 from BL left almost ten minutes late too. Hope the delays don't increase over the course of the day as it would be nice if this last day could run more or less as planned with no mega lateness as has happened the past few days.

funnily enough I'm told the monday morning ritual in a certain government department is to have a scroll through forums and youtube and see what has been happening over the weekend . Actions are taken as I know from personal experience

8:50 Bishops Lydeard to Minehead left Williton 36 late due to what appeared to be signalling issues.

Services around 45min late currently owing to signalling issues at Williton. On plus side, just enjoyed a lovely run to NF behind 419 which appears to be running well.

Around 35 late now, some good work to minimise delays. Very enjoyable day so far. IMG_20220508_114944.jpg

Definitely a day for travelling. The lineside wasn't enjoyable due to all the chopping and changing.

I should add that I quite enjoyed myself yesterday. Good numbers on the trains though not full (I did overheard a couple of people talking about the SVR SSG and busy it was...). Great weather. The only niggles for me were the late running and the pulling of 419 in the afternoon. Lineside fires are sadly par for the course when running steam in dry warm conditions though there were delays before this which I wasn't able to gather why.
