we used to get the balmoral and waverly calling at Folkestone, till the harbour owner decided he would rather see the harbour derilict than used as its ment to be, when you think of the vast numbers of OAP'S who holiday down here in a hotel only yards from where she could have berthed im sure that trips from folkestone would have been very well supported i know for sure that the boat owners wanted to bring either boat here, but were turned down by the harbour owner, it makes you wonder, who in their sane mind would buy a harbour at vastly over the odds only to let it become derelict ?

I have many fond memories of seeing the Waverley and the Balmoral operating from the shores of North Devon. That near miss that Richards posted I haven't seen till now. I bet the harbour master had a field day with this one.

I'm traveling from Southwold to London tower bridge this Thursday on Waverley, does anyone know down long it takes, how long I get in London and if the return will be coach or ship.

    thanks

Scheduled for nine and a half hours (ie arrival of 19.30).

You do not have any real time in London, only sufficient to disembark at Tower Pier, exit the pier and board the coaches.

    Enjoy your cruise.

Its great when Wavererley sounds her whistle under Tower Bridge, even better when she had the Steevens Struthers siren fitted.

Looking forward to sailing on her this week.

We had a week at Ryde at the beginning of this month and, to my surprise, the Waverley was scheduled to call at Ryde Pier Head on the Wednesday. I couldn't believe my luck!

However, when we turned up at Pier Head in plenty of time to catch the boat, there were notices everywhere saying that the Waverley wasn't coming! I enquired at the booking office, but the he didn't know why other than to say that it was going to Yarmouth and would be there in 25 minutes.

There was no way we could have driven to Yarmouth in time, so we went to Shanklin on a tube train instead!

Is there anybody that is connected with the Waverley who knows why there was a change of plan?

Thanks for the link dace83. I saw cranes and building work going on, but didn't connect that with the non-arrival of Waverley. We were not the only ones hanging around Pier Head looking lost, so she must have lost a few more fares as well as ours.

    Oh well! Next year, perhaps!

Glad you enjoyed our trip, hope the weather was ok and the coach return not too arduous.

Was anyone on Nat Pres on Southend Pier today about 13:30 with a camera? Waverley called for passengers there while we in Kingswear Castle were a couple of hundred yards away - must have made a fine picture!
