Without a fair policy this will only lead to greater customer dissatisfaction. Imagine in future years when 4472 is being promoted at a premium rate only to be idle at the NRM on the day in question for reasons known long in advance. One can't disclaim ones own statements. If you know it won't be steam you can't say it might be.
Sympathy for the circumstances which are beyond control but businesses have to do what is reasonable, deal with things in an ethical and equitable manner.
Would businesses be able to take insurance against loss of revenue due to fire risk bans?

This was a phone call AFTER the booking; and after some delving around, when I wanted to confirm with RTC what I had read on the web and seen on You-tube. I wanted to question and double check the info with them, and it was they who were vague and evasive with me. Even after repeated questioning they admitted nothing about a 'steam ban' saying it would still be steam from York, but they did concede that there was a chance of a Fireman's Strike later in the day.

If you had read the earlier parts of the thread thoroughly you work have worked this out. It strikes me that you are being unnecessarily defensive for some reason without looking at the facts of this individual case.

Anyway; RTC have now agreed to transfer my booking to the Cumbrian on the 30th August from Crewe to Carlisle, which I'm told should have more chance of being a genuine Steam day out.

Taken at face value if RTC are being evasive like Phil B says about a known issue it is rather shabby. At least they did the decent thing an transferred the booking. It must be a worry losing custom but that doesn't excuse being economical with the truth.

Thanks for clarifying Phil, as for 'reading the earlier parts thoroughly I would have worked it out ', then no, or else I would not have posted , I am sorry if I have caused you any upset, but if you look back at your previous posts, you will see that they needed clarifying, which you have now done and I now have a better idea of where you are coming from.

Yes not worth going out at moment when you look at results obtainable (big word for a Geordie) when weather gets colder

Just like the simplicity of basic digital cameras, it will help bring a photographic opportunity to the masses that previously was the preserve of the few. So how long will it be before the "remote controlled helicopter hits steam train" headline appears, I wonder?

Surprised none of the Photographer types were out to see Galatea's southbound run, was it something to do with the weather, or had you all had a visit from the man from WCRC in the long black coat and grease top, with the violin case ?

UK Steam is reporting diesel throughout this Sunday 17th. Weather forecast for NW is light rain Saturday and showers Sunday. Rubbish summer for mainline steam!
