    Its why you also see the oily stain down the side of a loco, that has been idling or doing little work.

    My wife & some family were on that one - they were waiting on the platform at Durham, but the train shot through on the down main at line speed! Great Control work, as it turned out - all waiting pax were put on the service train which was immediately behind the special, which was held for them at Newcastle.

    (There's a great video on the web of Tornado restarting from Durham on the return - even with 12 or 13 'on the hook', she set off & accelerated away up the hill towards Relly Mill without even a hint of a slip.)

    Yeah remember that from onboard, as we showed no sign of slowing down for Durham, then sailed past!!!!
    We went down to York to maximise the day, it was fantastic, and would do again in a heartbeat.
    Feel the chances are almost zero now, with the ECML north of Newcastle, seemingly out of bounds for steam.
