Its why you also see the oily stain down the side of a loco, that has been idling or doing little work.

My wife & some family were on that one - they were waiting on the platform at Durham, but the train shot through on the down main at line speed! Great Control work, as it turned out - all waiting pax were put on the service train which was immediately behind the special, which was held for them at Newcastle.

(There's a great video on the web of Tornado restarting from Durham on the return - even with 12 or 13 'on the hook', she set off & accelerated away up the hill towards Relly Mill without even a hint of a slip.)

Yeah remember that from onboard, as we showed no sign of slowing down for Durham, then sailed past!!!!
We went down to York to maximise the day, it was fantastic, and would do again in a heartbeat.
Feel the chances are almost zero now, with the ECML north of Newcastle, seemingly out of bounds for steam.

    THE RETURN OF THE RACEHORSE.
It gives us great pleasure to announce the official celebrations to mark the return to traffic of D9015 Tulyar.
As has always been our intention, the first day will be for society members only.
This is scheduled to take place on Friday 31st July at the Great Central Railway. To give members the best chance of attending we anticipate running from around midday into the evening.
This will be followed by a “Return Of The Racehorse” weekend on August 1st and 2nd.
Timetables and ticketing details will be announced as soon as we have them confirmed.
The DPS sales stand will be in attendance, and it’s a great opportunity to purchase tickets for our D9015 raffle.
Not a member but want to ride the first trains on Friday 31/7? Just follow the link below and join the DPS.

Not sure if blue and grey had come in before all the Deltics had gained small yellow panels but a simple job to turn the blue and grey to blood and custard as per the Swithland shot. :)

Apart from XP64 stock, first blue and white didn't appear until mid-1965, all Deltics were yellow panelled by then.
First blue and white I saw was on a Manchester -Plymouth, an RMB, whilst on holiday at Dawlish Warren.

We should give MANY thanks to all who have put the graft in to turn that loco. out like that (I'd buy every one of them a pint). Superb
Thanks also for the photos and the video clips. age and mobility issues means I can't get out and about like i used to do so I enjoy the photos and videos..
Oh, I don't like the 'decoration' under the front indicator panel.
