I don't suppose anyone on here knows the definitive answer to that, but could always speculate as usual.

Maybe a bit too revolutionary for some people Ralph but they could always try contacting Northern for answers to their questions. :)

I'll be about 250 miles away, is that far enough? ;)

Apple green A1, blood and custard support coach, blue and grey Mk 2 air cons, and red and gold 67. Not the most attractive of trains to phot!

So what? It's timetabled steam on the national network in the 21st century not 1953.

There are potentially five classes of passenger on the line that day:
    • Railway enthusiasts purely there for the ride behind steam.
    • Railway enthusiasts using the train to reach their photo locations.
    • Local people using the train to visit other towns and villages.
    • Passengers making through journeys to Carlisle and beyond.
    • People having a day out in the Dales.
It will be difficult for Northern Rail to distinguish between these groups, and why should they? If they sell anyone a ticket then surely they have an obligation to take them to their destination, perhaps not on the train of their choice, but they can't leave them stranded.

There doesn't seem to be much point in contacting Northern Rail about this. On the Facebook thread the Northern Rail representative doesn't know the answers. He/she advises intending travellers to allow more time for their journeys, and "If you are unable to board your service, and are delayed by 30 minutes or more you can submit a claim.".

I know we should be praising Northern and their partners for this initiative, but it's difficult not to have a sinking feeling. Either they haven't grasped the potential for disaster, or they are deliberately keeping their contingency plans a secret.

and what does that have to do with someone deciding not to make a round trip of 500 miles to get a couple of shots of "Jacobs Coat".

Don't worry, I know 5944 very well indeed and he will know the spirit in which the post was intended. And I've known him go to much greater lengths for a photo. :p
