The A1 is due to run from Stewart's Lane to St. Philips Marsh so nowhere near the Midlands. <BJ>

I always thought that salute was reserved for use during Mr Meanley's public addresses to Groups of visitors! to Tyseley!

Not going past Tyseley, Stew lane to Bristol. Not seen our times for tomorrow yet, Thursdays was Via West London line and around to Acton thence via Badminton road to Bristol.
And yes the chaps had a long day yesterday getting her fit. They have done a great job.
Spent a bit of time yesterday watching them dismantle the exhaust steam injector before leaving them beavering away.

Ah. Thought maybe it was in Doncaster. I guess Stewart's Lane to Bristol would not normally go past TYS, but you never know!

It's the shock of having two steam engines entering Bristol on the same day. It's all too much for me.

I did of course mean Tornado running from Stewarts Lane to St. Philips Marsh. :) <BJ>

Blimey. No posting on the Torbay Express since 1.37pm! Has the tour stalled somewhere or just our NP posters having a Sunday rest. We shall see I guess.

Worth noting that mrKnowwun has posted an interesting side by side comparison of this morning's climbs to the north portal of Whiteball Tunnel for Tornado and Sutherland respectively across on the Royal Duchy thread. 46233 definitely looking the more sprightly of the two. And hardly surprising, because what is titled as an LMS vs LNER shootout is in reality a comparison of 8P power with 46233's Load 9 versus Tornado's Load 12 (although admittedly there are three Pullmans in the Duchy consist).

It would be great to get some feed-back/ any feedback on Tornado's performance on the day of the day, though. RTT suggests that on the return, Tornado achieved a start-to-stop time of around 63 minutes for the 59 miles from Paignton to Taunton........at the very least, "not far short of not bad", as the saying goes.

    Just some raw speeds tonight:
    Outward
Flax Bourton Summit 43; Nothing special on Whiteball - 32 into tunnel; Passed the Duchess in the loop very rapidly!; 67 at Exminster; Kingskerswell - 40 at 217 3/4, checked to 32 at summit.
Slipped a couple of times on Churston, 18 over Broadlands Viaduct; 13 Hookshill.

    Return:
Into Greenway Tunnel at 20; Torre passed at 34; Summit 30; Exminster 75; Exeter-Whiteball Tunnel 18mins 36.3secs; Summit 63; into tunnel 65.5; 5mph slack over river bridge between Huish and Yatton; Yatton 51; Nailsea 68; Flax Bourton Tunnel East 67; Summit 59 - braking.

Heavy set this year. Only 1 with BR bogies. 435 tons excl. passengers and it's probably a few tons more as old 35 tons plates on 2 MkI FOs with Commonwealth Bogies
