    An easy choice for me.

Steam locos seen at Folkestone should have numbers 5 digits long and start with a 3.

Steam locos with numbers 5 digits long and starting with a 6 should be seen heading North from KIngs Cross. Live or on TV. (wink)

I think the topic just died Frank. I dug it out in view of the forthcoming broadcast - thats all.

Looking forward to seeing this tonight, just to check if it's my imagination that says JC has a rather even looking footplate face tan and at the same time appears to be wearing a very clean boilersuit. :-k

Dust sticks to sweat a treat, boiler suits don't sweat but there's a chance his face did?

Some people attract dirt, where others dont seem to! Anything more than two hours on the footplate used to turn my face completely sooty and oily - so bear in mind, Clarkson was in the cab for the whole 393 mile trip - wasn't he?

Working for 3 hours (with 15 minute break) using College Lathe machines wearing overalls can make your face sweat.

I think someone said he was due to come off mid-journey, but ended up staying on all the way.

Because he wanted to stay, or because the film crew needed him to stay?

We'll see tonight. If JC gets more and more grumpy as they approach Edinburgh, it'll be because he's really into the race, but they're stuck behind a stopping service and losing time, or because he thinks he's done his porridge.

Just got in from work and a quick shower and change and I'm now off for a fathers day Sunday dinner at the local Chinese eat as much as you want buffet! We like to keep things traditional oop north! 8-[

Back on topic, looking forward to tonights prog, we usually watch top gear as a family and my son is a big fan so tonight should be a bit special, especially as I have some 18 year old Glenfidich to sample (another prezzy) when the kids go to bed!

You may see my name at the bottom of the page tonight but don't expect me to be online in a moderating capacity,
    Neil.

I hear stig is being revealed tonight as the old one is going and a new one is in, so possible record numbers watching.
(this isn't 100% though so don't quote me)

A few years back we visited the Danish railway Museum on the day before their big annual open day and were invited behind the scenes to see the locos being prepared.

My two children were invited onto the footplate of one of the locos - my daughter descended spotless, my son descended covered in coal dust and oil.

I was talking to a chap who has an ex-fire service water bowser lorry and he was on the Tornado/Clarkson run and told me that JC was due to leave the footplate during the run but, depsite being offered the chance to go on the cushions several times, wanted to stay on so much he even stayed with it after arrival at Waverley to the stabling point and only left when there was no further they could go!

How true that is I don't know but a good rumour!

The first bit would concur with what people on the train were saying, but im pretty sure the last bit isnt true as they went of to the Hotel (hence the shenanigans with the wedding couple), but it wouldnt surprise me if the three of them turned up at the yard in the evening, perhaps to do a final bit of filming in front of Tornado and thats where he saw JC.

According to a picture in the Tornado book advertised on this site that JC was on the footplate for pick up shots during the stock move to Newcastle. Don't know this is true.

I thought I heard them say 60163 was built 3 years ago ?

Theyve kind of cut out the saga at Kings Cross somewhat.. the Jag and Bike left at the same time at 8am after a few false starts ! - I guess there's more exciting bits to come than that :)
