I see the petition has gone from around 40 signatures to 930 in a matter of days. Keep spreading the word and get others to spread it.

Now in the top 20 with over 4000 signatures. Nat Pres has 13000 members so at least 75% can still sign up and boost it even further! Keep spreading the word!

It's officially backed by the Heritage Railway Association.

I sent a copy of the e-petition link to Mr Higgins and Mr Featherstone of Network rail the other night, as both an S&T man for NR and for several heritage lines cable and general scrap theft affects us all, countless night shifts in the rain trying to put right what certain individuals do wrong! --NR mention the e-petition now on the connect system internally so thats a good few thousand more potential signatures too.

as an aside the scrap man also gets hit too, our local one has had his place done over several times for scrap to be sold on to other yards locally, crazy!!!!

Heads up for a BBC Radio4 programme tonight at 8pm entitled "The Report" which is going to look at the scrap metal issue in some detail apparently.

Everyone from the Prime Minister down appears to agree there is a problem, but the wheel grind exceeding slow actually doing something about the problem.

Said on R2 news this morning the the scrappies organisation is against - claims it will just lead to more organised crime. Hmmmm - or a down turn in trade more likely.

I heard a quote from someone in the business, "Cashless transactions could cause problems as quite a few scrap traders do not have bank accounts". :der:

Now correct me if am wrong but aren't they are the ones that are usually involved in the nicking in the first place......
