The return has a 10 minute stop in Darwen, this may not happen if either the WCME or the service train is delayed, but if it does and depending on rail conditions, the re-start could be the most spectacular of 2015 (so far :p).

The Cotton Mill Expresses invariably stopped at Darwen to await the service train. Sometimes our driver would make a leisurely start from Blackburn with the intention of arriving at Darwen just after the stopper, but only once did that work, so usually a noisy climb from there up through the tunnel. Mick Kelly getting the best out of 76079, don't know what the load was though.

Load eight as you stated in your other video on the climb to Copy Pit, with an extended whistle about 100yds short of the main road bridge for yours truely courtesy of CB. I've got the images somewhere including the departure at Darwin.

Hope the run with 45407 & 45690 on the 24th is as good as this one with 44871 & 45690 from 2010 in near perfect conditions .

I see the timings mean that we should at least get back to Hellifield in daylight...

Did that one turn out to be 5690s last turn of its previous spell?

5690 did a Buxton Spa Express on 26th Feb 2011 but not sure if it did any more runs before her overhaul was started April 2012 .

Thanks Steve I think the Buxton trip must have been the last one. Was that a double header too?

That's right. If I recall the reports 5690 developed problems during the run which precipitated an earlier than planned withdrawal.
Coincidental that its next turn should be paired with a 5 too, albeit 4 years later!

Hopefully we should have some white stuff on the ground that day, had been hoping for double jubilee haulage but iv got the Hadrian in March to look forward to for that. 44871 & 5690 weren't half making a dash up Shap in the outward leg and going down the S&C they were making a good soundtrack aswell. Will be quite a sight though seeing a black jubilee on the mainline though as Leander is more recognised in LMS Crimson Lake not BR Blackberry Black. Im looking forward to riding behind and seeing 45690 up-close for the first time since 2010 when she was at the Severn Valley's Autumn Gala.

Seems appropriate though that as 44871 was the last engine to double head with Leander before overhaul, 45407 should be the first with her after overhaul. Question is what will be pilot engine and which will be train engine, Strongly hope that Riley will be driving 45407 as that will mean Leander is pilot.
