The SR list is as shown below.

There are a few notable trends. To a significant degree, the pre-grouping locos were either sold direct into preservation, or entered industrial service and then preservation (E1 110; B4 96; Ps 178 and 753). Four were amongst the 8 locos initially preserved by Butlins (A1x 40, 62, 78, B4 102). The only two pre-grouping locos to enter preservation via Barry were the two largest: S15s 499 and 506.

From amongst the Maunsell locos, most entered preservation via Barry. The exceptions are those in the National Collection (777, 850, 925) and, oddly, all three of the Schools class preserved, (925, 926, 928).

The 4 USA tanks all avoided Barry, though two of them were in fact sold to Woodhams, but then resold for preservation without ever going to Wales.

Of Bulleid's locos, nearly all went via Barry. The exceptions are C1 and 34051 (direct to the National Collection); 21c123 and 35028 (sold by BR direct for preservation). Everything else went via Barry.

Not quite correct. 8500 to 8559 were built at Darlington and Doncaster Works for the LMS and loaned to the LNER.
The Class O6s were built for the LNER at Brighton, Darlington and Doncaster Works.
The O6s eventually received LNER numbers 3500 to 3567. Just before Nationalisation they were loaned to the LMS and were given the Nos 8705 to 8772. BR Nos 48705 to 48772)

Did it ever carry “NE” on the tender?

I didn't realise 60019 had run on BR when in private hands before it's more recent resurrection- I'd always thought it had been withdrawn and sidelined non operational due to some damaged component(s)?

Either that or the full LNER. I have photos of 3505, 3506 and 3534 with all four letters. Another of 3535 just has NE so it possibly carried both at different times.

The 8Fs built for the LNER, Class O6 3500 to 3567, did have LNER on their tenders until they went to the LMS and became 8705 to 8772. However, 8Fs 8500 to 8559 were built at Doncaster and Darlington for the LMS, but loaned to the LNER. Photos show that these locos had LMS on their tenders. A bit of a confusing situation.

Did Midland Railway 1F 0-6-0 tank 41708 go to the KWVR? I have seen a photo of it at Holbeck shed up on sleepers, due to hot boxes being rectified.

Tom has partly answered a question I was going to ask about pre grouping locos which got to Barry, the only ones I could think of were 43924 and a couple of GWR 2-8-0s of both tank and tender, didn't know about S15s

The RCTS booklet agrees with this account. The 8Fs built in 1943-5 by LNER for the LMS were on loan to the LNER until 1946/7, but retained their LMS numbering and ownership marking during that time. Whereas those built for the LNER had "NE" or "LNER" on the tender and were classed as O6 - initially allocated numbers from 7651 but changing first to 3100-67 and then 3500-67. To confuse matters further, the O6s were also transferred to LMS in late 1947 and became LMS 8705-8772.

Attached is a copy of and RCTS page showing the tender marking options. Apologies for poor picture quality.
