    Evening Tom

we’ve just had a delivery of sleepers for the shed and some ballast is due later this week to beef up the edges of the shed. We hope that track laying in the shed will start next month, with the first road being the head shunt to be extended straight into the shed.

    regards

    Matt

Road 1 is four and half MK1. The half being used to allow a vintage coach to be added to the service set as required.
Road 2 is four MK1 long.

The drone photos also shows the space ear marked for future shed extension to the left of the current phase 1 building.

Thanks for that. It's good to see the overall long-term ambition for storage, display and workshop set out.

My father and I enjoyed the Gala last Saturday and catching up with a few old chums on the railway. The trains were well loaded and we wish the railway every success with the continued development of the Abergwili site.

As the nights draw in the team have been working to get lighting up at Abergwili. Heritage Victorian lamps on the platform and modern car park lighting in the car park.

More ballast has also been spread and graded in the shed ready for track laying and the first rails, the buffer stop, is almost in position.

meanwhile in the loco shed repairs are ongoing to the 03 diesel and the first parts are being returned to Haulwen’s chassis before reassembly.

    regards

    Matt

    Hi matt,

Any idea what is the priority to be kept in the shed? I guess the service set, dining set and 216 and 220?

    Cheers,
    Tom

    Hi Tom,
Road 1 will consist of the service set and Road 2 will be made up of items from WRT collection.

Then once phase 2 built (no timeframe for this at present) the WRT will move next door and Road 1 will be service set and Road 2 will be the dining set.

The latest project to complete at Abergwili Jtn is the lighting. Both the heritage lights and the car park lights are now functional which is timely given the clocks go back this weekend!

Track laying in the shed is also due to start tomorrow.

    regards

    Matt

Another busy weekend and the head of steel emerges from the shed. Not quite connected to the rest of the Railway but almost there!

I had a great time on the lights train on Saturday, was strange only going to llwyfan, although potentially more streamlined than going the short distance up to Dan Y Coed then back to stop in Llwyfan. Although it only works top n tail since the loop is occupied. don’t think I’ve ever seen a 6 coach train on the Gwili, certainly last years lights of the valley was 5 on? Out of interest what is the capacity of the loops? AIUI Dan y Coed can only hold 4-5?

    Evening Tommy

Glad you enjoyed the lights train, afraid the weather has been pretty bad this year with almost constant rain.

Danycoed platform can accommodate 5 coaches with the caveat that the kitchen car at 57ft is the 5th car. A standard MK1 would not fit as the 5th carriage. The 5 car set with Kitchen has been the regular formation this year.

Abergwili loop is much bigger and can comfortably accommodate a 6 coach set. Llwyfan loop is also long enough for a 6 car set.

    Regards

    Matt
