I believe the first ever train to leave with passengers who've boarded at abergwili today! Good luck to the railway - an outstanding achievement.

Yes, a special day as 6430 enters service and we welcome our first passengers at Abergwili on board the diner. The site will be fully open to the public on Good Friday when our first “ordinary” trains depart.

    Regards

    Matt

No train in this photo but it’s a very welcome sight and potentially game-changing for the railway.

This is a great little railway with hopefully a big future. Having a terminus near the town should make a big difference too.

Just discovered that Abergwili Jct is only 25 minutes from where some of my family live. Pencil that in for a future visit!

Work continues on RU 1949, the focus has switched to the ends and after a few days of work the before and after shots.

It’s been a superb day in West Wales, with 6430 in action in glorious sunshine. Today marks the culmination of a few winter projects, with some lineside clearance opening up views, new seating in our first class compartments and of course the brand new car park in use.

    We
We still have quite a lot to do at Abergwili. We have to finish up the water, electric and waste installations. Then there is the small matter of building the carriage shed and the track to get to it and associated sidings.

construction of the carriage shed starts on the 17th April, so there is still a fair bit to do at Abergwili Jtn at present.

The desire is certainly there to extend north, it just requires all of the required planets to align (time, money. effort etc).

Edit - I can see JWKB bear me to the answer.

It’s been a superb weekend here in West Wales, with the official opening of Abergwili Junction station, a noticeable increase in visitors and 6430 looking resplendent in the sunshine. There remains much to do but it’s been a fitting climax to a busy winter.

Here are some more images with thanks to John Jones.

    regards

I watched a video on YT and I noticed no trains were stopping at Bronwydd Arms. With the opening of Abergwili Junction does that mean Bronwydd has now closed?

At the moment trains don’t stop at Bronwydd, but this is more to allow us and the public get used to the new arrangement. The station remains in situ and the signal box is manned on every operating day. When things settle down we expect that it will become a stop on the line.

    regards
