I believe ‘The Jacobite’ has a 37 on the rear this weekend, pushing due to the dry weather.

I hope you are not implying that the team running the business are not as enthusiastic and may allow standards to slip?

No idea ...but as I said, Nigel was a force to be reckoned with and I have been near to him when he was 'discussing' matters with WCRC.....

Any reason why it can't? The tour a few years ago did both, but that had Black 5 - so is it weight?

I believe Pacifics are currently banned from the Tay Bridge due to weight restrictions.

While the tour could simply retrace the route it takes on the outbound, personally I feel the routing via Gleneagles on the return is appropriate homage to the final days of the A4's on the Glasgow to Aberdeen & return runs.

RA8/9 locos are banned I think, as would be double headed Black 5s, for example. So I assume it is weight.

Search for @Romsey 's comprehensive explanation of the problems with the Tay Bridge. It's more than just axle weight - also weight distribution? Something to do with the long unsupported length of some of the girders and the closeness of steam loco wheels

As yet no light engine path for day 2 of the tour (Plymouth to Taunton).
Is it planned to be at the rear of the train? TIA. <BJ>

Surely the Duchess will be turned and serviced overnight at Laira and the diesel that came down on Saturday will be attached there and remain with the train at least to Taunton (hopefully just at the back).

Doesn't look as if the Duchess is 'overnighting' at Laira at all. If I'm reading it correctly, Plymouth 'moves' on the 27th are:

    Train arrives:
    http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/U55305/2019/04/27/advanced
    Diesel from Bristol:
    http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/U55306/2019/04/27/advanced
Diesel and stock to NA Hackney Yard:
    http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/U55303/2019/04/27/advanced
    Duchess turning/parking up in DK2 - presumably the Docks 2 bay;
    http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/U55304/2019/04/27/advanced

    Then on Sunday 28th:
Diesel and stock from NA Hackney Yard:
    http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/U55307/2019/04/28/advanced
Duchess from PLY DK2 to drop on front of train in P5:
    http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/U55041/2019/04/28/advanced
    PLY-Minehead
    http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/U55040/2019/04/28/advanced

There's no move for a light engine off the train from Plymouth, nor from any of the stops enroute so looks as if it's on the back all day.
