Formula is Power Classification of most powerful locomotive + 1/2 Power Classification of least powerful locomotive. So 8 + 1/2 of 5. 10 1/2. Always been told that's the case. Have no idea who worked it out many years ago.

I see the drain cock has been introduced to a big hammer.

Now c'mon lads, it's a bit disappointing not to see any adverse comments about this run, y'know, like when #18 BIL had Mayflower tagged on the front.
It's a fair bet to think that the folk sipping their coffee on board thought "this is great"...........just like we did with BIL and Mayflower.:)

On the train we were told initially that a points problem at Shrewsbury prevented us from accessing a platform, so we took water at Hereford platform in order to give passengers a leg stretch.
Subsequently we were told that 46223 was out of gauge for platforms 3,4+5 at Shrewsbury so the diesel was attached in rear to drag the train back into the platform (4) after passing through on the centre road which is what happened.
We were variously told that were to be held at Hereford for an hour, then were allowed to leave before the unit, all these messages coming from on high until no-one knew what was happening!!!
Matters were made worse by the trespass incident but whatever was wrong at Shrewsbury I cannot see how blame can be put on the charter operators who only did as they were told!!
