Yes I am an active volunteer
    Sorry, train planning speak...
    Train number 5Z24
Start Time 08+14 ( + signifies empty stock)
    Origin Bury ELR
    Destination Hereford
    Time at Destn. 15+26
    Schedule No. UID U53358
    TOC WCRC
service code 22244008 ( AKA Profit Centre)
Train type ECS ( for those who didn't see the +.)
FTR - Fitness to run exam, Someone signs their reputation and possibly career on the line that the loco and / or stock is fit for service.

FTR examiners can and do say locos are not fit for service. Safety of the line comes before anything else on the railway and that should include profits, image and corporate reputation - whatever some elements of management or social media may say.

Sorry for the little grumble after the explanation, but it needs to be said occasionally that safety is the prime objective of most processes on the railway.

    Cheers, Neil

I'm thinking Selside or Ais Gill, but anywhere will be swamped I guess!

Good start to the GBXI, Scotsman certainly sounded in good form. Here's the A3 racing across the Fens nearly Whittlesea.

Well the paper describes them as beautiful!
The video looks like it was filmed through
some sort of glass screen. In some places
the reflections of the people walking past
are clearer than the shots of the train.

I’ll be honest... absolutely no idea what it was called. I called it River Drove as that’s the name of the Bridleway I was standing on (apparently).

And the silo turned up 30 seconds before the train arrived, got its shot after standing in front of 2 other photographers and left as soon as the rear coach passed. Talk about inconsiderate.

Ref the a1,it's nearly always crawling on a weekday between the A639 (wentbridge area) and the M62,usually because someone ends up upside down. I've found if you are able that it's much better to take a potential 10 min loss going via M18-M180-M62-a1 because it is usually quicker in the end. Weekends less so but can still be the case, the section of a1 from M18-M62 is way outdated now and 2 lanes simply can't cope.

35018 looked great when passing it by train this morning. Really looking forward to my first trip behind it, whenever it happens.

Statement from the Cameron Support Crew:

Further to yesterdays post we regret to announce that due to a firebox problem Number 9 will not be operating any tours in the near future. Investigations are currently under way to assess the extent of the repairs required to resolve this problem, which will be carried out as quickly as possible.

It has been announced that Union Of South Africa needs firebox repairs that are more extensive than first thought and will not be working in the immediate future.

I'm not on today and I'm already beginning to regret it. Has there ever been a better day for quality steam traction?

Flying Scotsman, British India Line and double headed Jubilees all on the same train. The S&C plus Beattock. That has to be worth three hundred pounds of anyone's money. I hope it goes well.

60103s LE movement to the ELR via Hellifield and Blackburn today seems to have disappeared off RTT?

    Or am I being thick?

It's bad enough when the media use "train" instead of "locomotive", but that one does the opposite as well:
"The sold-out steam locomotive set off from London Kings Cross ..."
    and
"The train was was (sic) designed by Sir Nigel Gresley ...".
