Well you kept as low profile - did you sample the ale? I couldn't as I was on duty on Tornado.

Great event hosted by Barrow Hill, would love to see some more,an LMS gathering would be very nice,as would a GWR/SR.

Just uploaded a few shots from today, nice weather as it turned out despite how poor the forecasters make it out to be.

Oh yes. A couple of pints of Tornado Stout - superb, a pint of Sir Nigel's Best - pleasant and a half of Blue Peter Pale Ale - excellent.

While I totally enjoyed the event I heard a lot of somewhat disgruntled comments to this effect yesterday. The most surprising thing was most of these comments came from family groups rather than enthusiasts.

As I recall Brian Redhead saying on the the Today Programme many years ago: "The weather. It will be bright in the North and dull in the South. A bit like the people really."

I was very fortunate to attend the preview on Thursday and was overwhelmed by the sheer professionalism of the whole event. I even saw the two blue A4s lined-up next to one another. An excellent event.

    Hello All,
A collection of twenty-eight photographs taken when I joined UK Railtours 125 Special from London St Pancras to Barrow Hill last Thursday 12th.April 2012 to preview "The Fab Four Steam Gala", has been added to my Weebly Website, Rail Traction Photos in the Preserved & Heritage Railways section.

First thing Sunday morning I saw the GNR N2 shunting the GNR atlantic across the turntable into the shed, but could not get to my camera in time. Did anybody photograph this?

I got this Sunday morning only by chance when Bittern was shunting backwards towards the roundhouse.

An excellent set Rick - and confirmation of the value of joining charters where opportunities are given that are not available to the general public.

    Hi Sheff

We were at the back of the roundhouse, near to the entrance from the Marquee. It was seriously freezing in there, in fact I've taken today off work having gone down with a nasty cold. We didn't make much money, but did meet a chap with an austerity whistle for sale.

Next vulcan working party is sunday 22 april including a visit to the special secret site where the axle journals are being turned.

Thank you to those who have shared some of your fab 'Fab Four' photos on this thread. Amazing shots and great memories!

And another big thank you to those who made donations for their 'Fab Four' programmes. We raised £858.23 and Barrow Hill has topped this up to get to a grand total of £1,000 - which is going to 'Help for Heroes'.

    Alexa,

Ever thought of having a permanent blog on the Barrow Hill site for all things going on? The coverage to the build up to Fab Four was great - even if its little updates such as locos arriving and going, work going on, progress on repairs, etc - would be great as a regular news feed

    Jason
