Just been told there's track circuit failure in Carlisle, so we could be here for a while.

Well I think that four and a half hours from Edinburgh to Carlisle must be some kind of record. It is a pity that someone didn't notice that the finish time for the Fife/Forth evening circular and the start time for today would compromise the crew's shift regulations. So the moment a later start time was requested of Network Rail we were at their mercy and boy, did they make us pay for it. As someone else said - every loop between Edin and Carlisle visited, apart from Kingmoor, plus a coal train sent ahead in our path at Carstairs that relegated us to playing chase the freight train down the loops to Carlisle. And then we were not allowed out of Carlisle until after the stopper. The fact that had we left when we were ready and kept to our booked time, including stopping for water, we would have arrived at Long Preston before the stopper was due counted for nothing.

Despite this Bittern stormed up Cobbinshaw despite a TSR half way up and when we weren't waiting behind the stopper on the S&C or negotiating the various speed restrictions, she made light of the climb. But what a day!!

Just got back from chasing this round Scotland, had a fantastic week, the weather was quite unbelievable, never have I personally had better weather in Scotland for a full week.

My dad really enjoyed the Durham-Long Preston legs on the train, thanks to all involved for a very enjoyable tour, much better without having to get up at silly o' clock each morning.......

I have uploaded 24 shots to my site from the week:

How much royalties do I get for starring at Culross?

Mark - I wish I had had your inside info. We gave up at Langwathby after a chat with the signalman at Culgaith - if we had know he was coming before dark it would have been worth staying. Arten Gill was my intended final location. Well done!

    Thanks both.

LOL,my dad said he saw you on top of the roof! Are you on the shot if I look closeley?!

As for info,I was told 7pm at Garsdale by people on the train but that soon turned to 8pm,we were beginning to lose faith, especially when the sun went in,so glad I stayed up there unlike some poor bloke who walked down 5 minutes before it came and went home with basically nothing!!
