No need to apologise Fred. I hadn't intended to get the going away shot, but with such great sound it was worth it. And yes, I enjoyed our chat.

The lineside talk on Friday was that Scots Guardsman is awaiting parts and looks like not being available for the help for heroes spcial ( a great shame if this is the case) The bets were on the Hall for a run out on Thursday, we will have to wait and see, hopefully the Scot will be back to full health in the very near future - a magnificent loco.

As I write a check on uksteam.info has revealed 46115 shown as loco for Thursday's run. Pity the local weather forecast is RAIN !

Bingo, what do you know, just checked uksteam, all we need now is times, a big hand for the guys at carnforth, who've obviously been beavering away, dedicatedly, and all for the heroes who risk life and limb to keep us all safe.

Also worth noting is that not only are the crew giving their time free, the coal is being given and I understand that WCRC are not charging for the use of the stock and both loco owners are also not charging. Well done to all...

It has been said that Network Rail are waiving the access fees. If this is correct then they do deserve credit for doing the right thing.

    I fully agree with that

I looked at a lineside collection but the Charter Organisers have put it in the "too difficult" box because of the multiplicity of local authorities and TOC's who's formal consent would have been needed to arrange a bit of box or bucket rattling.

Shame - I would have liked to organise something to show that linesiders can be contributors, - so Matt and Neil - let's encourage people we meet to do just that!

Would it be possible for someone to set up something like a Just Giving page to benefit the charity? This URL could then be publicised on the lineside perhaps by those aware of it having some small flyers giving the web address plus perhaps relevant details like the commercial contributors who have waived their fees.

I won't be going lineside as its a long way from Bath to the north west, but if something like this were set up it might attract others in the rail community who feel this is a worthwhile cause but who aren't able to either travel or contribute to a lineside bucket.

Just been to carnforth and there's no sign of Scots Guardsman, only Oliver Cromwell and Olton Hall outside the shed, Olton Hall is in steam, possibly a steam test, and a rumour that gaurdsman wont be ready to run by tomorrow. Olton halls tender is detached and several feet behind peeping out of the shed. no idea whats going on by the way. another rumour is they are still pressing on with guardsman.

But its all the rumours that make these forums so-o-o-o-o-o interesting - and the reaction when the facts appear to disprove them all !

oh well - going off topic - was checking google earth out to check out some spots to capture the run . Thought about Eldroth , and then checked out the "street view" on google earth at school lane bridge. - There must have been a steamer due as there is a few photographer all set up at the bridge waiting for some action - must have been last march as the daffs are coming out.
