Apologies if this has been asked before, but, looking at the t/t for the Motala shuttles, apart from the first train each day, they look to spend 55 minutes at Motala before returning. That's a long time sat doing nothing, especially as you can't board or leave the train there, or is there more to this than there seems to be?

They leave Swanage at 8.45 each morning, double heading the 108 DMU. In the evening they come back over the road at 16.05, 16.12 off Norden, although they lay over at Harmans X for half an hour or so on their way back. When I get back to the office I'll confirm exact timings.

Swanage Railway's Grand Steam Gala and Vintage Transport Rally 2012 See "Motala & Freight Services" timetable at the bottom of the page for more timings.
As Norden Park & Ride has only one platform these shuttles have to fit in with frequent services from/to Swanage.
Incidentally, whilst the locos are between Norden and Motala they will be stopping, from time to time, to top up coal and water as they have very limited storage capacities for both.

Seems like the best bet for a trip behind them will be either the morning run from Swanage or the evening run back, otherwise, nearly an hour is wasted in the middle of nowhere, which could cause a few grumbles!

Yes, I think the 16.10 from Norden to Swanage is going to be very busy each day!

Thanks for the info on the stock Nick. How many coaches does that leave you with for Set B?
(On my visits to Swanage I've never seen all this stock - where have you been hiding it all!) :D

If advance forecasts can be believed .... your wish may well be granted. Extreme sunshine and good temperatures seem to be 'rostered'!!

The B set will be 6 coaches too, although the last trip it does each day to Corfe, and the first trip to Swanage each day will be 5; we need to steal a coach from it for the Wine and Dine! Basically every carriage we have available for traffic will be in use this weekend.

All visiting locos have now arrived, and making up the various sets is well underway. Various test runs and bits of shunting are also being undertaken, so there's plenty going on this week!

Yes; on the Swanage end of the B set, and then as the brake coach on the Wine and Dine set in the evenings.

Quick query if I may pls over evening freights -- although I understand that shunting of the freight
set happens @ Swanage @ 0010 -- t/t shows that last freight only travels as far as Harmans Cross??
Does this set go down much later to Swanage??? OR ARE TWO SETS IN USE???
    TIA
    Neale.

There are two freight sets in use; the set being shunted at 00:10 is the daytime set which comes back to Swanage mid-afternoon.

Gorgeous clear morning here in Swanage, 6 locos lit up, 2 to go. Looks like its going to be a fantastic day weather-wise.

Today's challenge is to see how many trips we can fit in 'over the road' with Alfred and Judy between trips back into Norden station; my money's on 3 trips up and back...got to set the bar for the rest of the weekend!
