Getting back into the swing of possible lineside trips again now Uni term is over. Any heads up as to whether it will be the Black 5 again on Wednesday as UK steam has the either or of 34067/44932?

I ask as I thought Tangmere was still out of the pool being fixed.

PS I'm not bothered if it is the Black 5 just advance thinking to plan for new locations to avoid repetition of the same shots as last year; glad for the chance to see any steam at all.

I am led to believe that it will be 44932 now, with D6515 (33012) doing the honours from Swanage to Southampton

Thanks for that. I've got no photos of steam engines of any sort actually in Bournemouth Sta so may well head over there as both a Black 5 and the 33 on the back are authentic for the location.

The 33 won't be on the back of the down train, it's already at Swanage. It's on the front of the up train as far as Southampton only

Thanks Dan. Given the weather forecast under cover at Bmth Station seems a good bet for starters.

Pretty slow through Eastleigh & Southampton area: 17 mins Shawford Jn to Eastleigh and 16 mins Southampton Central to Redbridge suggest a couple of loop stops for service trains to overtake.

I'm also wondering whether there isn't a second water stop somewhere. I would have thought that Winchfield to Swanage without a stop was a bit too much. When I did the trip some years ago (also with a Black 5) there was a stop at Northam Junction

Just after Southampton looks like a quick water stop. Gonna struggle to do it in one from Winchfield to Swanage, as you say.

I wonder if they will change it from a 75 mph run to 60 mph for the Black 5.

21 minutes depart Basingstoke to passing Winchester is rather pushing it with a 60 mph limit. 18.8 miles. 5 minutes to Worting Junction perhaps, leaving 16 minutes for 16.3 miles. And Worting won't be passed at any where near 60 mph by a Blackie on ten/eleven on it's own starting from Basingstoke. Good locos that they are.

Especially if there is no box to push it around which appears to be the plan.....thankfully!

Just had an e-mail from RTC advising what we all knew / guessed that the loco is now 44932.

Pretty congested through Soton at that time with the normal service trains plus a down FTL. My guess is that it will stop on the down slow at Millbrook to let everything clear, so I am going to try Millbrook Rec for a change to get it on the restart. Might even get the Queens in the background!

Through Chiswick station 6L @ 09:17. But I'd still buy the driver and fireman a pint ;-)

Oops, I can't count - train is actually load 10; must have lost count when I stopped to talk to someone at Victoria
Still a pretty hefty load for a class 5.

I tried to find a quiet spot for sound recording at Basingstoke leisure park. 44932 sounded terrific but they decided to start cutting back the vegetation just before 44932 arrived, ho hum... So just a peer through the fence at the 'five' powering towards Worting:

I took a short but smoky video of it passing through Fleet. It's here if anyone would like to see it :

Hissing and rushing through Brentford, nice to record a MK1 coach rather than a diesel disappearing around the bent in the distance.
