No I do not currently volunteer
I had expected to see SKP added to the list after this week but can not be far away now maybe the weekend of the 11th.

Possibly a few things become apparent on Tuesday's run which need attention.

Per SVR forum, 4566 is being taken to Bewdley, so I assume all is done with it.
    5164 has it's wheels back.

I would expect 4566, 43106 and 7812 will operate the midweek services. Not sure if 28's failure may have a bearing on how much longer 3650 remains with us? Am yet to discover the full extent of damage to or work required on 2857 to suggest how long she will be out.

Am starting to feel like someone in our number has been smashing mirrors and offending black cats.

All from online rather than on the ground:

Monday and Friday require a fourth engine with 7812 on footplate experience.

Keeping it factual I'm not sure whether 3650 has a limit on steamings and I can't see in the Working Timetable when she leaves. Her 3 weeks seemingly would run out on 16 August

From @svrengineering '5164 is now on its wheels. Big push by volunteers and staff should see a steam test next week'.

Cheers for that Patrick. I did wonder whether there were charters/FE's out this week, but was too lazy to check the WTT's. An extension of 3650's stay would certainly make us a little more comfortable.
Work continues on SKP and 1501 is on the verge of running in trials so these two are, to an extent, in the hands of the gods, as it were. 42968's replacement springs due towards the back end of this month.

Just out of interest, there appears to be quite a long lead time for new loco springs, is it fair to assume that the SVR only has one supplier able to manufacture these items now? If so, it is a sad reflection on what the Black Country" used to be.

The SVR has recently changed suppliers, partly due to some fairly well publicised spring failures. Therefore, the replacement springs required for the stanier mogul are the inaugural batch from the new supplier, and so have a longer lead time than later batches will. Further to this, 42968 threw up the added complication of breaking one of each spring (tender set, driver and pony), so that's 3 initial batches.

    Thanks Andy. Info appreciated.

On another topic, I hope 2857 is not too poorly. Was a bit worrying to see a front cylinder cover off if I have viewed the image correctly.

It would seem pretty daft to send it back when 2857 is unavailable.

Didcot Railway Centre | Events | Locomotive Roster suggests 3650's next rostered turn is 29 August. That's not to say they wouldn't/don't need it before then or would/wouldn't want to extend the hire, it's a matter for private discussion between the parties

    Cheers

    No problem.

Thanks for your concern. The front cylinder cover was indeed removed at Bewdley. I won't comment further until I am furnished with the details. Has anyone got a spare rabbit's foot or two lying around? We could do with a change of luck...

Let us hope that it's not too serious. I've been a Life Member of the 2857 Society since it entered service the last time around, so I'm hoping to see it as a powerful and reliable member of the fleet again soon.

1501 looks fabulous, well done to all concerned. Hope 2857 is back soon.
