Some footage from 4930s first loaded test runs on Thursday. Congratulations to the 4930 group and everyone at Bridgnorth for reaching another milestone

What's the vehicle immediately behind the tender? Looks like a converted Mk1 Brake but not sure what it's been converted to or why?

This must be close to the experience of getting to drive a brand new loco- so much has been replaced this time round?

What a fantastic thing to see, amazing to think she last ran the year I was born!

Cylinders, tender tank (on the swapped tender), chimney and new tyres are the major new bits that I can recall.

It struck me how overhaul/new build values are narrowing. The SVR's press release quoted £1.4m overhaul costs for 4930. Appreciating they're different engines and using different amounts of volunteer labour, the new-build 82045 Trust 'have already raised over £1.5m' and looking to raise '£300,000 in order to ensure that we enter the running phase in good health'. They're not in totally different leagues.

Those 4 items will last over many overhaul periods, though.

Absolutely. I recall reading in SVR News a recent head of SVR engineering saying they’ve been overhauling to a standard that the next overhaul would be an intermediate rather than a full - though he said that they should keep that policy under review to make sure it remained cost effective

Hasn’t this been the case with 43106 though?

As mentioned on the General thread, steam services suspend due to fire risk including 4930 test runs.
There have been some bad fires recently at the northern end which have spread into neighbouring fields.
Definitely a case of praying for consistent rain along the railway soon.

Steam being reintroduce this weekend. Saturday is now an A service (1 steam, 2 diesel), Sunday a B (2 steam, 1 diesel).
