Re: SVR Autumn Gala 25th-27th Sept

Was going to say that the autumn gala is always the same weekend each year however for a change it's the last weekend of September! Anyway I have added the date. Just wondered when Kinlet is due to arrive? I know its due at Tyesley for a railtour in July so wondered if it's going to come for the summer season given just how few locos the SVR has at the moment, would provide useful cover. I note that a certain Fairburn tank is still at the GCR...any chance it could be added to the line up on way back to the lake district....??! [-o< [-o< [-o< Would look lovely on the LMS rake.. This has already proven to be an excellent year for visiting locos to the SVR and with Tornado to come in October the autumn gala is going to struggle to compete for headline space! I await the final line up with great interest...

unfortunatly i dont think we will be seeing the fairburn tank at the SVR although you are right! it would look very nice. i would think that Kinlet Hall will probably arrive begining of August. gala line up looks very good from what i have heard \:D/ \:D/ i am looking forward to seeing a certain loco on hopefully the LMS set or the BR maroons.

In my experience of galas at the SVR, the railway starts the services each morning with locos pointing chimney first at both Kidderminster and Bridgenorth. One effect of this practice is that by the middle of the day most engines are running tender/bunker first and they don't get to be chimney first again until around 3pm by which time the light is fading if it hasn't gone already.

This has an effect on photters such as myself who are very much day-trippers to the railway. I have to travel around 110 miles to reach the SVR so it is difficult to arrive much earlier than 11am, by this time the engines are well into tender/bunker first mode. I suspect many other enthusiasts are in much the same boat as me.

Can I add a plea to this discussion that the gala planners arrange for the engines to be mixed up more so that there are alternate (or as nearly alternate as possible) chimney/tender first departures from both Kidderminster and Bridgenorth in the daily schedules? This will give the day-trippers a better chance of getting chimney first pictures while the light is good; thanks.

    Regards

The SVR seem to have the 'cream' of the crop as far as the gala's are concerned this year!!! Fantastic loco's for the 'Tornado' gala, then for this one, something entirely different but still as interesting!!!

Haven't the foggiest, but it would be extreemly unusuall for the full line up to be annonced this early, as few if any engines are normally confirmed at this stage as a rule. Having had my gala turns changed, owing to suitability of motive power, as late as two days before the gala, and only found out my turn a few days before, it is not un-common for us not to know till very late.

Olly, is that despite the fact the SVR online forum claims that the 2009 motive power list is finalised, and they are already researching 2010? :p

Be great to see 5643, but would have loved to see 5322 in WD livery with some of the SVR's superb GWR wagons

It would appear that the loading issues at Didcot couldn't be resolved in time for 5322 to visit. At least 5643's arrival will provide driver training for SVR's latest arrival!

Its a shame 5322 can't attend the gala but, it is a good line up and will be worth a trip.
