I guess perspective is everything in these matters, it probably seems like a short time to those of you heavily involved in the planning and execution of the event...to those of us travelling and stuck in our office waiting on the start of our vacation so we can enjoy all the hard work being done by the organizers, 44 days seems like an eternity!!

I am busy tonight researching various information to add to the brochure/guide book.

The A4 souvenir guide is now developing into a quality publication, supplemented with many outstanding photographs.

Have a look at Will as testament to the amount it takes to organise a gala. I'm told he used to be considered quite a catch by the ladies....

With the imminent arrival of the 'Dukedog' at Pentrefelin Carriage Works for its repaint , visitors are welcome , but we will extract a small donation from you (a large one if you look wealthy !)which will help towards the cost of importing locos. for the gala. The 6880 guys might also be confiscating cameras when the black livery appears.

    Bob.

3440 proving to be a popular choice actually. Needs to be doubleheaded though as she can't take 7 by herself up the line. Hmm...

    9017 + 3440
Is that what you are hinting about?

Not hinting at anything, just thinking.
Can't be 9017 nor 246 as they will be on the Talyllyn Recreation.
5526 will be near Carrog around the time of departure and 6430 will be in the sheds as she will have worked the autotrain all day.

So it's what to do ? Personally I'd like 3440 and a GWR 4-6-0 but looking at how things are going that wont be happenning so I'm having to rethink.

Further to my posting two weeks ago with details of the Printer Friendly Advance Ticket Booking Form, I can now advise that applications for the discounted tickets by this route is proving very popular.

    Dont miss out.

The Advance Booking Form can be downloaded via the 6880 website : http://www.6880gala.co.uk/News/News.php or simply download and print the attachment below.

Why? I am going to stick my neck out here and ask you to reconsider what in my personal opinion will spoil the Talyllyn AGM special; pairing a ghastly lime green loco with that beautiful Dukedog. I've got nothing against Morayshire but it will quite frankly look pants! The 9017 and 5526 combination sounds much better that the earlier Festiniog train gets, or in fact even 3440, 5643 or 5199 would look better paired with the Dukedog. It may be "continuing the theme of unusual motive power" as quoted in Steam Railway but the truth is no one will enjoy the aesthetics of that combination.

TR used a T9, a L&Y tank, a Scottish engine I can't remember at the moment plus a couple of other 'foreign' motive power. We wanted to do something similar and have chosen two of the 4-4-0 to doublehead in 9017 and 246 (with 9017 as the lead engine). I know the D49 boys liked the sound of it when I was with them a few weeks ago.

What do others think of this pairing ?

It would look odd I think IMO, the two GWR 4-4-0s would be better or pair it with another western.

It's something that'll never be repeated again (or is extremely unlikely), that can never be a bad thing.
