Just got back from Eastleigh and Ropley, Before Eastleigh my Grandad managed to take me to Winchfield to see her going southbound which was fairly busy but as she went through so did an elecrtic on the fast. Eastleigh was packed. The Bridge at the end of the platform was lined with people as wee the platforms. Managed to see LN in the wheeldrop shed at Ropley as well as Bittern and Wadebridge pass. Good day.

I thought there was problems with the way the signalling was set up, meaning it's not possibe to bring another train into platform 19 at Waterloo if the platform is already occupied. Whereas with all the other platforms it is possible, but none are long enough for a decent sized charter.

Was a no-show at Olympia by the way so they must have found another path to turn the train - it's at Victoria though.

I've never seen so amny people at Brookwood, there are usually about 10 people there but today I counted nearer 50 at least, I'd say. Half of them, as it turned out, were bowled by the 159 unit soming the other way, those of us on the sun side on platform 2, however, saw it in all it's glory...

My video should be on my youtube channel shortly, check the link to my videos below!

As to the box on the back, I can't say it bothered me that much, and I can't say it bothered anyone else at Brookwood either. Better that than a high profile failure somewhere (because you never know...)

Possibly one of the best photos I have seen of Tornado yet!!!

    Well done!

I saw it just south of Virginia water by the M25, then managed to get it again passing over the road bridge just before the station as it had slowed down for the curve. Did not have the camera with me as I had left it at work #-o

My first sighting of Tornado in the flesh today - what a fabulous piece of kit, and sounds pretty good too! Congratulations to all involved.

I would have said closer to 200, loads of people watching from the car park too. All in all a cracking day, 3 lots of mainline steam within a few miles of my house and lovely weather. Thanks to all those that make it possible \:D/

  16. Dunbridge was heaving with people.Unfortunately a large number got bowled by a service train.

Right chaps, drivers point of veiw! Smashing loco, we on the footplate enjoyed our day. I have never, any type of train, seen so many people out to see one. Thousands and thousands, truely amazing. Every station and vitually every bridge, let alone the fields and roads. Well done everyone, the A1 trust must be very proud.
Loco went well to, good run up from Eastleigh, she held 52mph all the way up the bank to Lichfield tunnel, not bad with a trailing load of 562 tons. Then fast line Worting to Woking, not booked I might add. Gave us a chance to stretch her legs, 70 - 75mph all the way.
Hope the boys this evening have a good run with her.

    Wayne.

PS, sorry Chris, chime whistle not working on her yet, won't be long though.

  19. Thanks for the drivers perspective of the day Wayne. She looked and sounded fabulous all day. Great to see her out there and doing really topping as far as performance.

The whole day was excellent. We enjoyed chasing as much as you enjoyed the footplate.....well maybe not quite as much.

A big thank you and well done to the trust for allowing us to share.

    FC
