D9000 looked impressive and well turned out this morning. Unfortunately I had to leave before departure, though hearing the engines start up, I could only think how loud kings cross must have been back in the day with a few of these around the place!

Went to Peterborough to see her tear through on the main but track defects further south meant everything was delayed and she was held for other services to pass. Did mean she gave it the beans through the station when she finally got a green. Sounded magnificent.

I mean it’s Thursday afternoon, smack in the middle of the most intensive service the ECML runs, so I expect it will be a keep to time and use the diesel if you have to sort of day!

I hope it's not too much 'on time'. It'll be dark when 60007 reaches me, which means taking my chances on the southbound platform of a nearby station. A minute or two early would work, or a few minutes late would be even better, because it's scheduled to come through within half a minute of a southbound passing Azuma, and the nearside platform isn't a good view. I'll be keeping a close and anxious eye on timings for both trains.

Steam is rare enough in these parts north of Newcastle, without being bowled by a damned Azuma.

Who'd have thought we would see a Deltic and a A4 hauling blood and custard coaches on the ECML seventy years hence...all praise to LSL for this opportunity.....

Going well at Shipton with little assistance from the rear gunner. Got a small glint of light on the engine, full sun on the bloody diesel!

It's interesting because the Midland Pullman is doing a tour to Edinburgh today as well. I can't remember two LSL tours going to the same destination on the same day before.

I was about 2 seconds away from being bowled by a 12-car 387 at Ally Pally this morning! It was a close run thing, watching Open Train Times and seeing if anything was going to get in the way.
