Mayflower working todays 'Garden of England Lunchtime tour'. First working through Longfield on the outward leg and then climbing hard up the gradient through Hildenborough on the return...

Dismal weather to round off the season this evening! My 2023 SSE compilation film will appear soon.

So, another season over. Had much more variety but the Brit was always going to be a winner taking on the Surrey hills. Every SSE run shown:

I also attach my take on the season. Some 'slow burn' sequences to catch the distant sound, so a bit of added volume may be useful when watching (and possibly a book to read while you wait!).

Hard to imagine that LSL have a spare crosshead on the shelf, I wonder if 70013's minders might be persuaded to provide a temporary replacement whilst a new one is manufactured.

I think they are interchangeable with a 9F and they do have one of them

Sounds highly feasible that they'd be a standard design, I'd say.

I don't know the answer to this except to observe that post WW2 the whole point of the Standard Class locomotives was that they had some parts in common so something like a crosshead could well be common across a few locos. Robert Riddles was one of the latter day engineers who gets insufficient plaudits for what he did.

Any news on what is running today's Chichester trip - 61306 (or is there a fire risk ban)?
