After the intial shock, it reminds me of those USAAF Bombers painted up especially as the marker point for the building up of the massive formations over East Anglia before heading out to Germany. Once the formation was set up they'd land.

Incidentally, my initial shock was expressed thus (as close as prose can allow): 'YEEEUURRRCCCHHH????!!!'

    Thanks Neil :D

A B & W picture appeared in one of the mags of the time (Trains illustrated, I think) but I've never seen any other pictures. I've just read the Wild swan book on the Compounds and, unless I've missed it somehow, 41101's unique livery doesn't even get a mention.

Wonder if Carnforth could be persuaded to turn 45699 'Galatea' out as classmate 45698 'Mars', an old Bank Hall favourite, and paint her black with red and orange lining. It would benefit a lot of people as we all know that 'a Mars a day helps you etc etc etc' !

We already have a Mars Bar engine......it's called Hugh Napier.....a very effective product of photoshop exists with the names substituted but as it is not mine I will not post it here.

My Australian sources tell me the run of 2705 in purple was a one off for the filming in Sydney, which produced so wonderfully spontanius reactions from the public. The engine has no other steam ups planned in Cadburys livery and will be re-painted back to green shortly.

DSCF1031.jpg DSCF1029.jpg 2705 is being repainted in its more correct black livery, even as I type.
