I wonder if they could paint 'windows' on the side of the Diesel, just saying lol.

    Sounds promising Steve, thanks.

This tends to confirm my theory, that Ian Riley has been determined one day to run with 60103 the the route of the Manchester Victoria Winter CME, which was planned for January 2016 but never happened because Flying Scotsman wasn't quite ready. True or not, that's why I booked on it.

So two questions - is it still due to run on Saturday? And will it avoid the risk of being a show pony, after today's dousing and a few more showers predicted this week.

    Time will tell ....

Peter, on a still damp Manchester evening

Hard to say but it’s rained solid for three days in Kendal so hopefully steam doing all of the work

Looking at the timings, it would seem to be steam on at Carnforth, steam off at Preston again? Shame if so!

The RTC advert says steam from MCV.

Yes, sadly, that's how it looks on RTT. Just an ordinary CME, probably with diesel(s) attached. A pale shadow of the original FS debut planned for January 2016.

What's the hope of Scotsman being allowed to haul its train plus two Class 47s over Grayrigg, Shap and Ais Gill unassisted? Can you see those pigs up there?

Peter, on a Manchester morning, still damp out there

Sorry but I am a bit confused here, if it was allowed to haul the train without diesel assistance why would there be two 47's in the consist?
Is there also not some issue about the NRM not wanting it hauling more than load 11. I seem to remember some issue on a Waverley where a coach had to be removed at York before departure.

I believe there are some load stipulations for the A3 which RTC will be fully aware of for the reasons you cite so it should be safe to assume the train will have been sold out within the unassisted limitations of the loco, fire risk measures notwithstanding.

I'd be optimistic that Scotsman will pull out of Man Vic on Saturday.

Sometimes they have the steam loco on the rear of the coaching stock, because that is what happened when the first Winter CME goes from Man Vic

Timed for 95mph from Crewe, so certainly appears to be diesel from there.

Looking at RYTC website - Scotsman comes on at Carnforth to Carlisle & Carlisle via S&C to Preston .. then comes off...with diesel assist !!!.
Also a path afterwards from Preston to Carnforth afterwards. Rest of tour re Crewe to Manchester and onward to Carnforth & return from Preston is diesel hauled.

The website must have been updated recently, yesterday morning (Monday 30th) the advert stated steam from MCV. Not sure why they didn’t just pull the ad because its sold out in any case.

Well it's now rained in North Cumbria 7 out of the last 8 days, all except one of those I'd describe as significant rainfall over a prolonged period (more than 3 hours heavy rain each day). That must be contributing to steps in the right direction, so maybe there is some hope.

That from the RTC ticket letter? Or from a 'reliable source' Daniel?
