You could name it Mallard Jr. and I would still come to see it. Are you planning to go for LMR blue? I always did like their livery.

I don't think they were in the 'preservation' business though were they? :)

Slightly off, slighty on topic, but I was wondering if Sentinel 'General Lord Robertson' has gone to MoD Long Marston? As an ex-Longmoor engine it would be an apt loco to have on site, and it wasn't in the long siding at Bitton when I was last there.

You could name it Mullard after that distinguished ex-serviceman - Arthur Mullard (also known for being silly).

It was further into the main bit of the yard at Bitton when I was there for the steam gala last Sunday, in the siding nearest the footpath.

Photos elsewhere showing 3278 has touched down at Tyseley for restoration to be completed. Tender expected tomorrow.

Guessing the hope is to have it ready for Military RailFest in May? Good luck if they can complete it in 6 months, not impossible but certainly a challenge!

For the tin foil hatters who don't do Facebook because they worry about the NSA spying on them, or are reactionary enough to think "Friends" should acually know each other in the real world, here are the pictures. And yes, we do plan that it will steam for Military RailFest in May. The engine is actually a lot further advanced than it looks, although paradoxically the tender is much worse than it appears in the pic and needs a lot of loving. We are very pleased to be at Tyseley under the watchful gaze of Team Meanley and are grateful for their support and hospitality.

The engine has also become a member of the Italy Star Association, marking its combat service with USATC 2nd MRS and the Royal Engineers in the Italian Campaign, including the ghastly bloodbath at Monte Cassino.

Thank you, as always, for your interest.

Any news on Military RailFest? The thought of having all S160s seems to have diminshed, as doubt 6046 will be ready intime and 5197 will be tight. How's 3278 getting on at Tyseley?

What ever you do, don’t let them paint it in GWR colours, mind you if they want to fit it with AWS/OTWP, or what ever its called, and trial it on the Shakespeare's you wont get any complaints from me, just don’t try to go to fast tender first, those bogies under the tender must be like 20p pieces, the way they bounce you about , only joking, before i get put in front of the firing squad for being silly

Just looked at the NVR advert, and guess what it shows, 3278 in its former LMR 701 livery with the number erased;)
