    Hi,

I have just purchased a Sony Alpha 350 DSLR Camera which, so far, seems really good.
I am hopefully off to Llangollen soon for the Autumn Gala and I was wondering what settings my camera should be set to whilst taking images of the steam locos? Auto, Sport etc

    All help would be appreciated,

    Thank You,

    Lewis

If you have a DSLR then yuo should be lookning to move away from the settings that the camera gives you to more manual modes of operation.
however if oyu insist on using them then for a moving engine use sport as effectively this will go forthe shortest shutter time (exposure) as possible given the light.

a short exposure is needed to minimise movement and hence blur - unless blur is what you are after..

Suggest you sit down with the manual and read it from start to end and then practice before going off to the gala.

The great beauty of digital being that the marginal cost of each picture is close to zero. So takes lots of pics and experiment.

Thank you for your advice, I look forward to experimenting at Llangollen!

Would you use the continuous mode whilst the shutter is down?

my personal view :no try and compose your shot rather than shooting off a whole load of pics.

Try and also apply the rule of thirds to your pictures and

having looked at your fotopic site, don't be afraid to let the train run on a bit more before pushing the shutter

and as Ralph says post fewer pics rather than more

but above all practice before you go not whilst there.
