No idea about where its going but there are a few LSWR/ SR boxes in existence! Wareham, Hamworthy JCN and a few others.

    Ah, i see.

Not likely to be located to the west of Alresford on the secret proposed western extension(referred to by Robin Jones in HR) then? Shame.

Yes, i know, thats why under the HR Forum viewtopic.php?f=89&t=14104&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a I suggested that Robin Jones checked google earth.

A vague, distant memory says something about a demonstration 'box to be installed at Ropley as part of an HLF-funded project to develop the site.

What's Uckfield box up to these days? Full timber, last time I heard it was empty after a while as a taxi office.

Last time I saw it(when the Sussex Explorer was there), it was a taxi place.

Speaking of signal boxes there is one at eridge on the opposite side to Spa, don't really know whats going on with that.

Brick base, unfortunately. There is a gorgeous signalbox within the Bournemouth Depot complex, but again, it has a brick base.

I suggested the MR timber box at Warmley (near Bitton AVR), as it is little more than a caged target for vandals, and I am sure it will be burnt to the ground before long.

Uckfield sure is a Taxi office, and the upkeep is alot better than it was in the latter BR days by the looks. As for Eridge, it sits there, almost as if someone locked the door on the last day and left everything as it was. No plans for the Spa to use it then?

Best person to ask on that what be Matt, he knows alot more then I do! I think as its on the opposite side its not really any use to Spa but I'm not quite sure whats happening to it, you never know it may become a part of the long term plans. I think thats the case but as I can't really be considered a spokesman, don't take it as fact!

A lot nearer to home, I wonder what the future holds for Botley? Brick base but nice to think that the upper works could be dismantled when the time comes, not just demolished.

    Re: "New"Mid Hants signalbox

    Guys,

As things stand it is difficult to use Eridge box purely because it is on the wrong side of the line and we are not able to run things under the NR rails. This does not mean that the box or its components will not be included into some kind of signalling system in the future.

To dig up an old topic, Havant council are looking for new uses for the 1876 signalbox, and one option is to dismantle and move it to a "railway museum nearby".

    http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/newshome/Ha ... 5012679.jp

It might be a bit big for MHR's plans, and the brick base would make it much more work to dismantle, move, and rebuild, but if the council are willing to assist...

Havant box will not be used at Medstead although there is another in the pipeline of which MHR are awaiting a decision.

Please see David Snows HLF report in the latest Mid-Hants News for details for MHR memders , and once I have a minure I will copy the details to this thread if I am not jumping the gun.

    Regards
    Chris Willis
