Mine came a couple of weeks ago too, and the one for my driver's experience came as soon as I booked in May. Might be worth giving the SVR a ring.

A bit of detective work on the thursday shunt moves suggests it is set N (the teak set) as set N goes to Bridgnorth on thurs, is split and 'local 3' works back to KR.

Makes sense. Believe they used that set last time as the set is majority opens which meant people couldn't turn one compartment into a private hotel room for the night as much.

That's ok then, managed to fall alseep in these before, I'm sure I'll manage it again... Remember in the 2015 gala, people started to flag, and the snores got louder, and more funny...

Having had a look through the shunt notes, and what is available online, I am making the assumption set N(8) for Thursday is 6 teaks + a Mk1 SK and BSO which then spilts Thursday evening into Locals 1&3. 564 stays with Local 1 most of the weekend so I assume this will be four teaks; with Local 3 being the other half including the two Mk1s.

Local 2 is two GW Toplights.

The dining train is Sunday is S(4)+L(3).

Is Set M all maroon again? If so, with the two Mk1s of the Venturer, will look and sound so good behind 7812!

Hi, fellow Newportonian. Thanks for that. Are either of these 2 mk1's the experimental coach with the recliner type seats?

Quite an unusual timetable with relatively few full line trains. It will be interesting to see how it works but I have a fear that with the weather forecast to be decent for the weekend there will be a high turnout and a lot of people waiting at intermediate stations for onward connections and scrums to get on shorter than usual trains.

I too am very surprised how many trains are marked limited accommodation. Having has to stand full line both ways at previous galas my father (who is 91) has agreed we will be better going back on Monday to have a ride on a "normal day". We will look in on Friday and then go to the GCR Saturday and Foxfield Gala on Sunday where I am sure it will be quieter than the SVR.
I hope it all works well at the SVR but a dry weekend forecast may bring out the crowds as mentioned above.

Looks like one every 60 - 90 minutes, that's about normal

Weather forecast looks a bit iffy today but tomorrow's looks OK, so I think I'll head to the SVR tomorrow. There's no chance I'll be going on Saturday or Sunday, it will be far too busy. It's just a shame that 34053 is spending it's last gala appearance running the overnight trains, so the daytime visitors won't get to ride behind it. I'll have to go back to SVR again before the end of the year to try and grab a ride before it heads off to Swanage permanently.

Or you could use it as an excuse to stay late!

Be warned - Friday can get rather busy too! Indeed my experience has been that Sunday is often the quietest day.

Agreed, in fact I suspect the cycle race may make it very quiet. Allow extra time to get here if you are coming Sunday and see my map a few posts back or the SVR website for advice on avoiding the road closures
