A rarely noted fact is that during WWII a batch of King Arthurs were allocated to Newcastle for work between Edinburgh and Newcastle; doubtless some of their duties would include teak rakes on the ECML.

Which heritage line can offer a teak rake ??

Would be great to see 7812+4936 double head between Bewdley and Kidderminster if they both face south. Will the turntable be in action during the event?

Usually the turntable is only used before the galas, in the 6 Autumn galas i've attended i've not seen it used during the events.

It is unlikely that we will see much doubleheading as the restrictions are now throughout the railway, rather than just at Victoria bridge. The restriction in the KR-BY section is the viaduct at the south end of bewdley station (the name escapes me at the moment).

Ah right ok that's a shame, is it just a weight restriction or is there a TSR there too?

Yeah they've never used it at the ones I've been to but did use it Spring last year and this year so was just wondering.

Pity all the daytime trains pass in the loop outside Kidderminster rather than in the platform.

Maybe, personally I think it works better as you don't have anyone trying to get off an incoming train to change over to one about to leave (it does happen).

EXCLUSIVE - 'SUTHERLAND' FOR SEVERN VALLEY GALA

The Severn Valley Railway has today confirmed that Stanier 'Pacific' No. 46233 Duchess of Sutherland will be attending the Steam Railway-supported 'Autumn Steam Gala' on September 20-22.

'Sutherland' replaces Maunsell 'King Arthur' No. 777 Sir Lamiel, which will no longer be attending due to uncertainties over whether ongoing repairs will be completed on time....

The railway anticipates that the 'Duchess' will be paired with the 'Blood & Custard' set throughout the weekend, presenting something of a mouth-watering prospect.

The current gala line-up currently looks like this:
    No. 46233 Duchess of Sutherland
    No. 850 Lord Nelson
    No. 4936 Kinlet Hall
    No. 34053 Sir Keith Park
    No. 7812 Erlestoke Manor
    No. 43106
    No. 5643
    No. 1501
    No. 2857
    No. 5164
Plus Talyllyn Railway No. 3 'Sir Haydn'
Quoted from Steam Beano's Facebook page.
Shame as I was thoroughly looking forward to seeing the Arthur on SVR metals after 30 years. Not a bad replacement though.

Excellent news, I was undecided whether to go or not, but 46233 has changed everything.
Well done SVR to obtain such a iconic loco at such short notice.

This will be a crowd puller. Adds a little to the working complications, because as far as I recall the loco is prohibited from certain pointwork at Kidderminster, as will be presumably the Nelson.
No doubt the p-way people will be thankful it is only for three days!

777 would have most likely had the same conditions as I'm sure it's for 4-6-0s and 4-6-2 with over 6' driving wheels and both 777 and 850 have 6'7" (assuming they are at full thickness, which things rarely are). So it's a large loco for a large loco.

I think this going to be a great event with the visiting loco being on large trains so hopefully be plenty of seats.

Would be great if the LMS rake could run as a 9 coach behind 46233 at some point, would look stunning I'm sure.

Might have been possible if 46233 was a visitor from the off, but as it's a replacement, then it'll probably have to fit in with the existing allocations. There was something about it being with set C.

If it's green then one of the Mk1 set would look better anyway, what set does 4936 get bolted to anyway ?.

I'd seen that and since it's in BR Green - either the Maroon or the Carmine and Cream set is most authentic. Hope the SVR is trying to match appropriate locos and stock for this gala.
