Excellent day out with the royal driver doing it in the level hour from York with a 20 mph tsr and a slight check before Malton to contend with and Mr Kelly bringing us back to Malton in 25 mins and Bootham in 57 mins before the compulsory wait to get into platform three. That is the first thirteen coach train of any kind I've been on for quite a while. Thanks to all concerned.

It wasn’t until about five minutes ago as the drone was following 46115 but right in front of the smoke box along the tracks. You can bet plenty would stick up for the way it was being used but rules are rules .

Following a recent Covid infection, on Thursday morning Oswald tested negative and was now a free man; but not "too free" as Mrs W decided to accompany him on an evening jaunt to watch the returning "Scarborough". The early afternoon sun had given way to high, grey cloud that stretched from horizon to horizon. We headed to Yorkshire, the county were earlier in the day, Mark Wood had dismissed those Australian arch-villains Cummins and Carey - bowling Cummins for a duck and then having Carey caught after whacking him on the head with a bouncer. Could the day get any better?

We decided on Moober Lane bridge at Gargrave, several hundred yards west of Gargrave station and on the climb towards Bell Busk. As we drove past the station car park there were already several cars parked and a few photographers making their way to the station. The westbound service train came and went. Our train had picked up a bit of a delay beyond Keighley and left Skipton 4L. If it maintained the 4L it would cross with the eastbound (stopping) service train in the station - "squeaky bum time" for those waiting on the platform. RT the service train departed and a couple of minutes later came the distant sound of the approaching Scot - panic over!

She rounded the curve and as she passed under the road bridge at the east end of the station the sound leapt up a notch. The exhaust shot skywards and was grey and translucent with no hint of condensing steam in the warm evening air. Louder and louder as SG heaved the 13 coaches up the 1/165r, as she neared the hiss, hiss of a leaking draincock and then a crescendo of noise as she passed under the bridge and headed west. We watched her until she curved away under the occupation bridge and then listened as she hammered away into distance. 18C with a gentle and warm southerly breeze, cloud thick enough for just the odd light raindrop, 7L and 38mph. Could the day get any better? Yes, it just did.

I hope that those on board enjoyed their day of fresh air, frivolity, fun and fish & chips. Thanks to all who contributed to this spectacle and long may it continue.
