I wonder why 6201 or 6233 weren't available it was mentioned that 60009 wasn't to run a couple of days ago.
A spoilt day for many I guess...

6201 was 60009s replacement but also appears to have failed with tube problems this morning.

I know it's difficult and I'll jump into my bunker after saying this, but it strikes me that people go to Scarborough to travel by steam and not a diseasal. Can't think of another reason to go to Scab otherwise.

So, Iguess a lot of people will feel cheated by the change of motive power. From a personal perspective, I would rather have the trip postponed/cancelled with a valid reason (not an excuse) that gave a rational explanaition than have a product foisted on me other than the one I had contracted to buy. Most right minded people appreciate the fragility of steam locos and will, even grudgingly, accept and understand, then rebook. Will those who turned up today risk their hard earned again??? Yes I know that RTC will have incurred expense, but surely given the nature of the business this should be covered by insurance.

In the last couple of years the rail tour business has been in for a bit of flak with some monumental failed businesses and people losing money. I would like to think that operators would want to restore and protect the image.

    Ok... start shooting!

Scarborough is quite a nice place to go to, been there lot of times with steam and DIESEL, of course it is dissappointing to get a diesel if you paid for and expecting steam, apart from the steam I have been there on the service trains from York. Oh and talking about failed buisinesses my credit card company did pay back my money I paid Past Time Rail, although a lot of people on here said it would have to be £100 or more before you get anything back, well mine was under £100. it is back in my account and all settled up.

Good news... we had to do the same with kingfisher last year.

Been to Scab lots of times but it does need some investment for 21st century. That said the number of tours going there bring lots of trade and they do give some time at a static location.

I think if you look at the amount of people who walked away (not many) and those who stayed (albeit dissapointed) you will see that there was a point, some people would have been satisfied (i was, decent day out,Scarborough is not a bad place, been to a hell of a lot worse,Holyhead anyone?) if the tour had of been caped at Crewe and the other pickups this morning there would probably have been a riot! Whereas as it was people were told of the problem, some moaned, but then, some do,and in a way they have a right. But we were told we were to recieve a letter, whether we get a voucher or credit note is remains to be seen.

It could have been worse,i would have been more dissapointed from a general enthusiasts and daytripper's point view to have turned up and be told it was caped completley (once happened at Loughborough with something from St Albans that had SPADed in North London,i can assure it isn't best knowing you got up at 4am to drive there and back!! I was not pleased but was not annoyed (probably because i don't mind 47s) and i can imagine if the fare paying passenger had a good day out in the end they *may* travel again. The only ones who won't are these obsessed people who seem to think that because one trip out of 10's has a failure then they must never a travel again with that company because it is poor? It makes me laugh how these people even come to the assumption that its the tour companys fault anyway. But oh well, some are smarter than others....

Shown as fully booked, family's on a day out to the seaside, school hols.(a lot of children) etc.etc. It's my opinion it would have been madness to cancel it. Sure, a lot of disappointment, but try telling wives and children that they are not going to the seaside for the day when they have been looking forward to it "because the engine has failed".
These things are not run purely for the benefit of "enthusiasts" The ordinary public use them as well, as shown in " Fully Booked".
Well done to the tour company for making the best out of a difficult job.
