There are always the two roads to the west of the station.

    All.

We are working the problem with everyone involved and hope to have a resolution within the next few days. As soon as we have some more info, including times, it will be distributed via the usual methods.

Please no random speculation on changes of motive power, etc. It doesn't help with the number of concerned phone calls we are getting in the office!

    Cheers!

If the worst came to the worst why not take a servicing break at Appleby (I appreciate this is not ideal if it is raining) and then run via the Carlisle avoider from London Rd Jn onto the WCML at Upperby Jn. At least this should permit the train to run more or less as planned.

Just out of interest is there a Platform 3 and or siding that could accomodate a 'waiting' train at Penrith station these days or just the two through lines ?

I'm not sure many of the passengers would appreciate the long stop at Appleby.

The platform length in #3 at Penrith would make alighting and boarding a long winded process (main reason why a leg stretch is usually discouraged during water/pathing stops there), has anyone actually been round Penrith the town ?, the thought occurs if it was suitable as a destination, someone would have done it by now.

Appleby seemed pleasant enough to me, but it is true some over 70 would require banking assistance back up from the river to the station!.

The Midland next door is excellent but maybe not for a train load!

Ben, there is also WhatPub, CAMRA's recently launched online pub guide which aims ultimately to list every pub in Britain. Although a work in progress it already includes over 96% of all real ale pubs.

My ticket has just arrived, with headline outward timings all the way to Carlisle (arrive 12.41) but with all return timings 'tba'. We are promised these with our route notes when we board.

I hope this thread will vouchsafe a little more info before then as to what awaits us!

And still nothing on RTT for the train itself or the LE movement to Crewe, if there is going to be one.:(
