That really does sound good. The engine is always popular wherever it goes. Such a pity that the WSR didn't appreciate what a fine machine they had in their possession. <BJ>

What’s the saying about not knowing what you’ve got until it’s gone?

Well unless the WSR have paid 'value +' for the shed and track, then the S&D Trust will have lost out.

But at the end of the day, its money in the bank, as oppossed to a promise of money, that might have never materialised, what counts is that the S&D trust can now plan on with getting the engine overhauled,

I think plenty in the WSR were very aware based on postings here. It's just they threw out the baby with the bath water.

Your suggestion’s highly speculative however if ever the WSR plc and the S&D Trust reached a financial settlement, releasing the plc from their obligations towards the overhaul, the exact terms might well be confidential.

However, given the well known history, I expect the Trust’d make some sort of statement confirming the matter was resolved since the intent to negotiate a solution’s been mentioned in at least their last two annual reports to the Charity Commission.

By selling the shed and track in situ., the S&D Trust’ve also saved themselves the cost of removing it.

Good to see a professionally-produced video - and what a fine locomotive too.

The rank and file did. She was the "shed pet" and was given all sorts of tweaks and upgrades such as a dropping grate. When another example spent time on the line, they were like night and day in terms of performance.

The loss is all down to a single factor, narcissism.

At face value, this looks like excellent news. If a pragmatic negotiated settlement has indeed been achieved this is obviously preferable to a prolonged and costly legal battle with an uncertain outcome. However, we’re talking about the dysfunctional WSR “family” here, and given the well known history, whatever agreement is signed and sealed the Trust may be wise to assume that nothing is agreed until the money actually appears in their bank account.

AIUI, in matters such as this the Trust’s directors have a duty to their members to demonstrate that the best possible financial outcome has been achieved. This may be difficult if the two separate matters (the overhaul of 53808 and the sale of the shed and trackwork at Washford) have been conflated, and the exact terms are confidential. Some reassurance may therefore be required, although the figures will no doubt be shown in the accounts in due course.

I don’t disagree with your comments but just to be clear neither I, since you’re quoting me, nor the Trust’ve said anything to suggest these two things’ve been conflated.

I very much agree with this.

53808 and Washford are 2 distinct issues covered by 2 entirely separate legal agreements.

They haven’t said. Clarity may have to wait until they do.

I think I’ve mentioned this before but I’ve found 88 to be a bloody reliable piece of kit :)
How many of us can say we’ve had a 7F as part of our journey home and it’s been a bit more reliable than a Pendolino or an Electrostar? :)

Unnecessary and unfair to SDRT trustees. Having had the pleasure of talking recently with the Chairman, I am absolutely certain he understands very well that these are separate matters. I would suggest that everyone is just a little patient for a few weeks and all will become quite plain. I think the SDRT are poised to be able to move forward in a very positive way.

Strangely enough, I spend some time helping folk get pronouns correct these days on other grounds. Not 'they'. 'He'.
