There are still more to be put on the website, go to the booking page and look under the tour name option.

The Coast to Coast in July should be an interesting one. Quote from the site says: "We expect that the train will be hauled by the ex-LMS 4-6-0 steam locomotive No. 6100 “Royal Scot”. However, should that locomotive not be available then No. 6201 “Princess Elizabeth” will deputise.".................

Good to see that the CME'S in July from Euston are on a Saturday as requested.

Been copied from 2009 brochure, as that what was advertised that year!

Big Al, do you know something that we don't about Lizzie. Unless I see more tours advertised I'm keeping my expectations extremely low.

I think something red located in Carnforth might be your only option at this point.

Scottish Lowlander is indeed intriguing. Might be able to all six BR regions again this year... My guess is Crewe to Edinburgh via Carstairs.

The Scottish Lowlander is a 50th anniversary re-enactment, to within a day I believe of the original Scottish Lowlander which was operated to give a Duchess a final run on British Railways. The loco used on the Crewe -Carlisle section was 46256 Sir William A Stanier FRS. This loco was soon cut up after that final run. Whilst 46256 was being serviced at Carlisle 60007 took over the train and ran over the Waverley route to Niddrie Jn Edinburgh, where 60009 Union of South Africa then took over and returned the train to Carlisle via GSWR. 46256 then returned the train to Crewe. The 2014 re-enactment will use 46233 Duchess of Sutherland in place of 46256 Sir William A Stanier FRS, the Waverley section will be omitted as the line has gone and 60009 will take the train over Beattock to take up the identical route from the Glasgow area it covered on the original train viz the GSWR to Carlisle. At Carlisle 46233 will take the train back to Crewe just as 46256 did. That's the plan anyway.

Also the Dorset Coast Expresses mention 777 as being in the pool. That looks like a "cut and paste" job from earlier years too.

Thanks for that. Looks a very interesting tour, and a very decent bit of mileage in a day for the money, so will seriously consider booking it.

I will definitely be on it as I was on the original one.. It was notable for the fact that the signalman who should have routed us onto the Waverley had assumed a passenger train would not be going that way, so we came to a halt near the box and he was told to set the signals correctly, I seem to remember having to set back a bit as well. Whilst stopped for loco change at Niddrie, catering staff took a raiding party to local shop to replenish stocks as they had run out of bacon butties....... Ah they were the good old days.

Ralph.............. I was on it as well and remember all the events you refer to. Yes we did set back in order to gain the Waverley route the signalman having set the road for us over Beattock.

Even cutting out an 'alternative' Edinburgh leg over Cobbinshaw and along the Edinburgh Suburban route to return via Waverley and Falkirk, a Crewe-Beattock-Glasgow Area-Dumfries-Crewe trip is c497 miles of steam in one day, which makes for excellent value for money.

Agreed. As I said earlier, the RTC programme for 2014 is turning into a brilliant offer for travellers and I hope that their efforts are rewarded with a good level of bookings. But surely they have enough staff to be able to pay someone to cast a careful eye over the detail before it is posted on the website and remove the nonsense that creeps into the text. When so much must be spent on producing a high quality printed brochure, the same applies there. Anyway, good luck with the programme. I will be supporting it.

Looks like we could have an 'I was on the original Lowlander' 'T' shirt printed....
Full details are on 6Bells http://www.sixbellsjunction.co.uk/ then 1964 26th September.
Interesting to note Crewe to Crewe was 13hrs 44 minutes for 544 miles, an average of almost 40mph, remarkable considering the route and the stops and delays, and only 40 minutes late back in Crewe.

Also a Valleys Explorer the day after the Scottish Lowlander- I'm now torn between mileage and a prestige event, or ultra-rare track... Now, how to get from Crewe to Bristol on a Sunday morning!

There's also a premium trip to Stranraer from Waverley at the end of April.

The Valleys job sounds interesting. Wonder what the motive power will be.
