A friend has a Gardner Diesel-engined generator which is reputed to have come from a royal train vehicle. Does anyone know if either the LNER or LMS trains were fitted with such a generator in one of the vehicles?

    Is it definitely a Gardner?

Definitely a Gardner 6LW. A friend is of the opinion that one of the vehicles comprising the 1941-built LMS train had louvres on the side, which suggests it was Diesel generator fitted. Any experts on the LMS royal train on here?

This one is described as a "Power Brake" http://www.cs.vintagecarriagestrust.org/se/CarriageInfo.asp?Ref=744
and a topic on Royal Trains on RM Web describes it as being generator fitted

I would have thought that by their very nature Royal Trains would have needed a Generator

Fairgrounds have never been the same for me since they pensioned off the old LWs, the haze of smoke, the distinctive noise (to me), and hearing them start to grunt as the ride started and they picked up the load.
