LE movement from Exeter to Bristol on RTT after the arrival of the ACE puts Tangmere in the right place......

There is also the possibility that Tangmere could be working the rest of the seasons Par trains as Nunney most likely do the Torbays and 70013 working other trains either on the Saturday or the Sundays,

The ticket letter for Sunday 7th has Tangmere on the train. Hope it's on its own otherwise it will be an expensive day as we'll buy 'pay on the days' on the Torbay.

Surprisingly Tangmere seems to do ok on the South Devon Banks, though I guess being able to carry decent momentum onto the gradients and Ray Churchill in the seat helps considerably.

Yes correct.I am sure Ray will not want a DL on the back but it will be up to WCR. If Tangmere performs OK tomorrow that should increase the chances that it will run without a DL. Also it should be dry. I am going to turn up and see how the land lies. If no DL I will try to buy a ticket. If there is a DL I have a ticket for the 1236 Shakespeare so will be content to photograph the RD and Torbex at Malago Vale and then go to Stratford.

It was load 9 last year for 34046, 70013 and 34067, so I'd assume the same this year. Load 8 for the Black 5s.

Cheers, James. Nine coaches shouldn't be a problem on a dry rail. And with Churchill on the reg, I don't see there been many issues.

I agree but will WCR see it like that. Doesn't 34067 hold the record time for a westbound climb of Dainton with a single engine? Seem to remember that from one of Mike Notley's articles. RIP

Only once has the Duchy had a diesel on the back, last year when a Black 5 was substituted for a larger loco, then the Black 5 caught some lineside vegetation on fire and the diesel was commanded to the front, subsequently for some reason the diesel failed or ran out of fuel at NA on the return and was dumped in a siding and the Black 5 took over the train unassisted to Bristol, Ray dislikes diesels on steam trains, and the only way there would be a diesel attached is if NR insisted on one. Let's just hope that everything goes OK and to plan without any incidents today. then Sunday's trip will be just fine with Ray and no diesel

It did at one point but it's been subsequently broken, think 5043 holds it currently, long as it's doing warp factor 5 at Aller Jcn, Tangmere will be fine, seem to be where it's speed is right down and it loses it's feet that problems occur, Ray Churchill seems to judge the approach to Dainton westbound perfectly, coasting through Teignmouth to get a clear run, opening up halfway along the Teign estuary to pass Newton Abbot at near line speed.

It looks ominous for Sunday. In case you've not been reading the ACE thread. The 47 didn't drop off the ACE at Grosvenor Bridge Junction as was promised as it was coupled. It seems to have assisted most of the way. Tangmere wasn't steaming either - down to 14o on the boiler into Salisbury. I wonder if it was NR or didn't WCR want to take the rick? Another miserable day for the fare paying passengers and another nightmare for SD. Hope Nunney Castle and Braunton salvage the day.

Whenever a locomotive is not performing up to its capabilities consistently it must be frustrating. I wonder if Ray can be confident with a not so well steaming locomotive should that be what shows up? The 44932 incident last year was dreadful.

Tangmere has returned from Exeter to Bristol after being towed by a class 47 diesel. <BJ>

Well I joined the train at Exeter for the run to Penzance and didn't hear any complaints from the passengers about the diesel on the back from Victoria as a matter of fact the passengers in my coach were very happy and contented and said they were having a lovely time. The run to Penzance was really brilliant. Anyhow the train would have been too heavy for Tangers to manage on her own and would have been in all sorts of trouble,
